ps1 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Hey everyone,Here's a video I put together, part of a series actually, about the double leg sweep. It's my opinion of how it can be used in MMA fighting. It has always served me well. Let me know what you think.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8A-sHK69t8 "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
Throwdown0850 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 that kinda looks like a move from Tomiki-Ryu Aikido as well?? hmm.. You must become more than just a man in the mind of your opponent. -Henri Ducard
ps1 Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 that kinda looks like a move from Tomiki-Ryu Aikido as well?? hmm..It wouldn't surprise me. It's a pretty common technique among martial arts. The setup is sometimes different. "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
bushido_man96 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I love your honesty, ps1!I think you could make it work, but it would need to be quick. My partner and I do some takedowns like this for our DT training. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Afterall, no one's ever gonna see my name on any UFC highlight reels:D It works very well in Karate and I make it work in our MMA training. But I'm not exactly fighting anyone who is world class on their feet. I think someone with excellent timing can pull it off though. Zanshin Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Yep, We got that one in wado too it’s called Ohyo Kumite Sanbonme. This vid shows it as more of a throw, but correctly it’s done by breaking your opponents posture, by levering them back against your arm whilst your hips rotate in opposite direction. Pretty much as you show. They key being the rotation of the hips.http://www.art-of-budo.com/karate/NL/media/video_kumite_ohyo3.htm "The difference between the possible and impossible is one's will""saya no uchi de katsu" - Victory in the scabbbard of the sword. granitemiller Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 We have a similar sweep in Shotokan. The video was well done. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" Confuciushttp://graniteshotokan.wordpress.com
Rainbow_Warrior Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 good ! I used to use a sweep 99 % identical in my kung fu years...I see that many guys from different backgrounds know similar things ´´ The evil may win a round , but not the fight ´´
bushido_man96 Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 ...I see that many guys from different backgrounds know similar things Its because there really isn't a whole lot that is new under the sun when it comes to fighting and the way the body works. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
