I will never be able to fight in real life i don't think. I am okay in the dojo and im tough and even give the large fella's a good fight but in real life i would be completely useless. I can't cope with situations like that, i'm a like a frightened rabbit and im ashamed to say i wouldnt know how i would react if my family or friends were in danger. :(

you must have faith in yourself first, and your skill.. if you hit them, they bleed just like you, and the rest of us.. :) your making the enemy out to be like some super human.. everybody has a weakness(s).. your first mistake is telling yourself that your a frightened rabbit.. so dont!! :D

white owl, I donlt think I ever got over the fear or nervousness. Its always there bofore a competion or sutation that can arise. However I just learn to deal with it better and drive on.

As for Martial Arts, I took it for self defense, still do. However I just enjoy learning, more about my body and how to control my opponent, kind of like a game of human chess. I don't get in fights, I avoid siutations like those, or try to talk my way out of them. I don't see my self getting any street fights all the time to where I would be my sole goal for training.

Thanks throwdown, what you say makes sense but unfortunatly i suffer with a panic dissorder. I used to take meds for it but one day decided i didnt want them anymore...pat myself on the back :D I'm ok in tourneys, i have never won anything but i have always enjoyed the experience and it has never really scared me, i found them to be fun.

It's just real life situations where i would get stuck

good job on the tourneys.. :) but, you have to try to believe in yourself.. I know that sounds original but its true.. I want to you to think about this, if someone who is intent on hurting you, look at that person, what makes that person so scary?? probably nothing.. in fact they dont even know you are a karateka. you really have to have faith in your skill.. if you hit that person, it is going to hurt, their not made of steel.. they bruise and bleed and feel pain just like the rest of us.. hope this helps mate. :) read my quote.

If you think that way, then you will perform that way. When it comes down to it, it is them or you, and you had better pick you.

There are ways to train yourself to get more accustomed to these kinds of situations. It is called adrenal-stress training, and you can find plenty of information on the web about it. You may want to look into it.

There is mental/emotional training and scenerio training that can help assist you in being more prepared for that. Tony Blauer has some good info out there. Do a google search for his name.

Also you can look up roy harris. He has training in that and trains others some times in that. It can be very hard though, not so much physically but I am refering to emotionaly. Some people break down and just can't hanldle that type of training

Thanks guys you have been very helpful i will look into all the things you all suggested. :)

I worship my boys and i know i would never let any harm come to them, i'm very protective over them, so im sure if they were ever around when something happened i would protect them to the hilt.....although i'm sure my 10 year old would try to get in there first...he thinks he's so tough bless him

Hehe, at the training classes I attended last week, I jokingly offered to don the "Redman." They would love me to do that!
