My answer

Recommended Posts

recently I have come head to head with the following creditted but very annoying opinion: Why practice martial arts? we are in the age of the gun.

O.O

And now I prance around with a smile on my face because I have just the answer.

Because not everyone HAS a gun.

There you go, simple as that..and I just wanted to get this off my chest so there it is.

Thank you for tuning into this bit of randomness ^.^

Strike first. 'Til then i will not fight you.

Why do I love Bruce Lee? Not because he was an awesome martial artist- but because his train of thought overlapped with mine even before I knew about him.

Thank you karate forums, for introducing me to Bruce Lee

My brother is always trying to put down martial arts, saying karate would be useless against an attacker with a gun. My reply has always been "And I'm sure all those years you've spent perfecting your golf swing would really be a big help against a gun". Pretty much any athletic endeavor would be useless against a gun, so if that's the case why bother with golf, soccer, baseball, swim team...but he still doesn't seem to get my point. Sigh.

Why did I have the bowl, Bart? WHY DID I HAVE THE BOWL???

It is the age of the gun, but what happens when you don't have it drawn?

Besides that, if hand-to-hand combat wasn't still a threat, then the armed forces of the world wouldn't waste time training it to their troops.

I train because since I was about 6 I thought it was cool and i still do. I guess I have kind of grown in love with it i dont need to do martial art but life would be odd its just what I do

Because we enjoy it? Because I like hte physical challenge. Because something is off in my head and I like getting tossed about and battered up side the head.

Ideally, when it comes down to life or death defense of myself or my loved ones, I'll have my trusty Springfield, or even my archaic Navy revolvers, on hand. But if not, when it gets right down to brass tacks, I'd still like to have some teeth, and not go gently into the night.

I think you are more likely to get into a fight without a gun being presented?? .. but, it has happened to me, yeah... not fun... :dodgy: thought I was a gone for sure...

and if it happened again I would probably try running too...
