Different things motivate different people. Some like to watch movies, and get motivated that way. Some will watch fights, and then get motivated by that.

One way to motivate yourself is to set some short term goals and some long term objectives. Make sure that the goals you set are measurable; something that you can record as improvement. It could be a number of kicks done in a minutes time, or the number of push-ups you can do, etc. Write them down, and look at them every day. Use several short-term goals to help you to achieve a broader long-term objective. Again, write them down, and keep them where you can see them everyday. This should help.

Motivation in the class is kinda easy for me, mainly becasue of the people I train with. Several people are (or have been) on the national team, so I look to them as a sort of benchmark. I kinda try to be as good as them or at least half as good as them. Especially in the fitness classes I'll try and keep up with the fit people and won't let myself come last. Also I'm one of the higher grades in my classes (and one of the older kids) so I have a lot of people that look toward me as a guide of how the techniques should be done. This means that I have to try and get everything right and as near perfect as possible because others are watching me.

Do what bushido_man said though and set short term goals to try and accomplish. Even if its something little like learning to do a block well or being able to hold a kick for a length of time etc. Something I try to do is to video myself doing forms or sparring every now and again and compare it to how I was a year ago. It helps to know that you are actually improving even when it feels like your not.

my motivation, uhm many things... during workouts i find my motivation in music, and the pain that i feel, those muscles that are tearing themselves down just to rebuild bigger and better. but to get myself to workout, i think of all the people who think i'll never make it, never amount to anything. i think of how much better im going to look when i drop 20 and im in the shape i use to be. motivation is just really a mind set, usually for whatever reason, anger and determination keep me going. and make sure you set goals where you can see results, don't set them so high you can't see results because you will get discouraged and will fall off the wagon. i've been there and done that. just work your tail off, good luck!

How do you stay motivated to train/work out?

Different things keeps different people motivated. AS for my self i was always motivated from a young age i just had a love for the martial arts. Also any touraments i had coming up really got me motivated aswell. Its all about yourself and wat will motivate you.

I think that there is no 1 style , and that to truly become a great martial artist and person you must take information from where ever you can.
