What are good ways for my body and mind to harden against physical and mental pain?

Im not saying i like pain or to suffer but i just want that little extra so i have that edge against most people. And seeing someone sustaining pain withouth even moving an inch is very admirable.

Whilst pain itself is hard to condition against, you can alter the way you react to pain. Each time you are hit, if you begin to feel pain most people will react in a negative way and want to give up or hold onto the area that is hurting. Ideally you want to condition yourself so that you either have no reaction at all, or have a positive reaction e.g. push yourself further. So whilst you still physically feel the pain, mentally you are dealing with it in a productive way and not letting it rule you.

A simple drill we use to condition the above is(and im using body shots has the example but you can replace these with anything you want to condition):

Have one person wear large boxing gloves, then face off with a partner and have the glove wearer throw reasonably solid body shots, when each shot lands, have the person who got hit throw a counter shot immediately. This overrides peoples natural tenancy to stop after being hit, and turns your reaction into something positive.

Hope this gets you started.

Thx i was thinking in that direction as well like by simply not complaining that its cold or that im hungry, so instead i just keep my head up and pretend i dont feel a thing even though i do.

But it would take some time to make a habit off this.

i'll be working out, and want to quit, want to go for 20 minutes instead of 30 and at the 20 minute mark i'll just grunt and groan and smile, and remind myself that what im doing, nobody else is. think of yourself tougher and stronger than all. you gotta get the attitude that YOU ARE IT. and that this is for YOU. and as for physical toughness, ride through the pain, smile at pain, pain is a good thing, it tells you you're alive and it's the best teacher.

"Smile. Show everyone that today you're stronger than you were yesterday."

There are some Systema practioners who do cold shower things to develop their ability to withstand certain kinds of shocks. I have never tried it.

I do several core strengthing exercises that make various muscles "scream". I order to ensure I push past that discomfort part I use a simple timer I purchased at a local business. I punch in the necessary minutes and do the sets. A friend and I square off in horse stance and do punches and blocks back and forth. Then do basic kicks. The point is to toughten forearms. So you block as hard as you are capable. The puches and kicks aren't intended to land. I really like this method. Trains muscles and toughtens your arms.

Luck.

Just do it.

This is a good way to approach it. Many of us have normal pain tolerance levels. Some fortunate people, on the other hand, have bodies that put out higher levels of endorphins, so they end up having a higher pain tolerance than others. And then there are the masochists, who enjoy pain.

The best way to explan is that pain is an illusiuon , its your mind telling you that something hurts. Now if you can train your mind to not listen to the pain reflex you will see that you wont have much pain anymore.

But on the other hand pain is good , necause it helps you learn and grow into a great martial artist.

I think that there is no 1 style , and that to truly become a great martial artist and person you must take information from where ever you can.
