bigscottius Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 With all of that, I would probably start cross training to get in the best shape. Start out hitting the heavy bag for 3 x 3 minute rounds. Try to get 80-100 shots in each round. You could add another round every two weeks or something if you feel good. The other way I highly suggest for conditioning is interval sprinting. It is an awesome way to shock your system into higher coniditioning. A study done showed that several people, 20-30 years old, sprinted 4x a week for 2 weeks, and increased their cardio by 100%. For sprinting, a good one is to sprint for 30 seconds (after a good warm up of coarse) and walk 2 minutes. Repeat 4-7 times (start off at 4). If you do this 3 times a week, you could add another one on each week. If you alternated that with heavy bag work, you would be in awesome shape in no time. Do not demand what you can not take by force.
bigscottius Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Oh and also, I would talk to your doc about going on a diet. That would help the most out with your weight. Another thing about the sprinting is that it is shown to actually shed pounds faster compared to long distance running because of the way it bumps up your metabolism. It keeps burning fat when you are done, or something like that. I would google "benefits of interval training" to find out more on the subject. Do not demand what you can not take by force.
Jay Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 run skip run skip and oh run some more haha:P The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
hayashishodan Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 First look at your food intake. How you eat is important in addition to what you eat. Smaller potions 4 to 5 times per day. Make sure you drink a lot of water. try and avoid sodas , tea, coffee. Weight loss should be gradual to give your body time to adjust.Mix in some type of resistance training in addition to sprinting, weights, bowflex, total gym etc. Resistance training has been proven to continue burning calories long after you stop the workout. it will compliment sprinting. Be patient. You will hit flat spots here and there. You may not shed a pound at times. Don't worry keep up the training as you are getting stronger and more fit. You will find your stamina will increase. Be consistent. Good luck Karate..........The weaponless weapon........
Athena Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 I personally don't follow up on the no tea rule XD they say it's bad because of caffine but it's got some sort of thing to help you..i can't remember it. So I forget it and drink tea when ever i feel like it..and like I said..this is just my personal thing. I have nothing to say about the physical stuff before mentioned, they're good As for food.. try and avoid canned foods..they usually have tons of salt and other preservitives. Vouch, instead, for fresh veggies and stuff. With your dinner always include veggies with your meat...keep it balancedTry eating food with garlic and onions... wheat germ is very good to start eating as well. and keep up with that water! Strike first. 'Til then i will not fight you. Everytime someone calls JKD a style, Bruce turns over. Why do I love Bruce Lee? Not because he was an awesome martial artist- but because his train of thought overlapped with mine even before I knew about him. Thank you karate forums, for introducing me to Bruce Lee

Some are good (green etc.) I should have said sweetened teas of certain types. Good advice on the canned goods with the salt etc. Karate..........The weaponless weapon........

DWx Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Most teas are good because they contain a whole range of chemicals that have good effects on the body such as antitoxidants and theanine. IMO there are more pros than cons to drinking it as long as its fresh and you aren't excessively consuming it. "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
