Jay Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Im just interested to find out how effective as a weight loss exercise you belive this is. Personally i dont need to loose weight actually im probably to light in my own opinion. However many people trying to loose weight swim. I have never thought that this was a very good CV exercise although it exercises alot of the muscles in your body. I just dont think think it is a vigourous enough exercise to help. My basis on this is that as far as i know i dont know any professional altheltes or people trying to gain 6 pack abs etc using swimming to do this therefore i think that it is ineffective but i dont know because i have never used it in my training im just interested to hear your opinions on this subject. The key to everything is continuity achieved by discipline.
DWx Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I suppose it depends on what you are doing and what you want it for. 100 slow laps are going t work you in a different way to 25 sprint laps. As for abs there are a lot more beneficial exercises than swimming because you wouldn't necessarily exert that area of your body. warpedpig Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Any exercise which raises your heart rate into the aerobic zone for an extended period of time is effective for losing weight. I'm pretty sure that if you swim as fast as you can for at least 20 minutes, you will both feel the effect and see the results. I grew up in Mission Viejo, CA, one of the world's 'hotbeds' of competitive swimming and diving (Greg Louganis trained there), and some of the best conditioned athletes I've ever known were swimmers and water polo players.
