Easy on the Knees Excersizes?

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm looking to get in better sparring condition, but I have profoundly crappy knees- anyone have any good workouts that aren't hard on the knees?

Yeh, I do a bit of cycling, and it's not too bad. I don't have access to a pool at the moment, but that may change soon :) thanks!

You can use weights to support the muscles around the knee also.

Well, whatever you do, do NOT do leg extensions. Some people say they're low impact on the knees, but that is completely false. If you can, squats and deads will eventually help strengthen your knees, but that is assuming you can do them to begin with. Talk with the doc.

Yeh, dr just said "low-impact" he didn't give specifics. No, I can't do squats. I can't bend or extend my left knee with much weight on it past about60 degrees. The right knee is a little better. Dr says I probably have arthritis, because it's hereditary and my symptoms (I can tell when its going to rain- pretty cool) indicate so. I also tore both left and right meniscus, which only the left is currently bothering me much.

Have you considered pool exercises? There's a lot less resistance on your body when you're in the water, so it's easier on the joints.

Yeh, someone said swimming, so I'm working on that :) Also I ride my bike a good bit and I'm going to start some light weight training to build up muscles.

Thats great, as you probably know, stretching constantly at the right time is a major factor in your ability to get your knee in better shape.

Especially with lots of biking.
