Im on finals right now and it has significantly decreased my motivation for karate lessons. I've been able to carry out a four class week semester of kung fu and goju ryu. Im in great shape but im taking two weeks to visit my parents before summer begins.

How can I stay in shape during those couple of weeks? I def. don't want all the benefits of karate fading away because of a two week lay off.

any advice?

Maybe run through your kata a few times per day and do some cardio workouts. Other than that, take the time to enjoy the company of your parents and relax. Return to training relaxed and ready to go!!

Enjoy the vacation!

I actually record what we do sometimes in class in a journal. That way I can take the journal with me when I travel or have vacation and essentially do the classes that I really enjoyed. If you don't have that though, throw in some kata, do some single person sparring drills, and cover your basics and you've got a pretty solid practice. Remember, even practicing for a half hour once to twice a week is far better than not practicing for two weeks.

Do you know what the best thing about solo training is? You can do whatever you want! No teacher telling you what you have to do, no strict class regimen to follow. Just pick something, work on it, and have fun while you do it!

Your skills will not deteriorate in 2 weeks time, so don't stress too much about that, either. As the others have said, enjoy your vacation! Besides, the break may be what your body needs, even if you don't think it needs it.

not worrying about my skills, they're nothing to brag about really. All im worried about is gaining weight. I live in El Salvador, we have a perpetual 90 degree weather and we're surrounded with great food everywhere. (sorry for making you jealous), anywho i've been running the mile twice this week. :)

I don't think you would gain that much weight in two weeks. Just be conscious of what you're eating.

thanks for the advice, i've been running miles this week. For some reason Karate has made me more aware of my mind and body :karate:

Hey dude. Do some running if you feel like it, but mainly relax and exjoy the break. I find that when I've had a break, I tend to return to karate felling even better than when I left as all the nagging injuries have recovered and your body's had the chance to rest.

This is a good point. Sometimes a 'forced recovery' such as this is the only recovery we end up allowing ourselves, because we become so neurotic about our training.
