ninjanurse Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I love to train outdoors...but a formal dojo is sweet too! I am opening a new school next week that I hope will have the sense of formal/traditional while being modern at the same time. Although, no matter where you train you can carry that feeling with you....and I hope to instill that into my students. NightOwl Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I like formal dojos and the casual 'MMA' style gym. Some may say that they are opposite environments but they both represent an important aspect of martial arts in my opinion. Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft.~Theodore Roosevelt
wingedMonkey Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 I know traditional dojos are awesome or dojang in my situation but i reeally love the outdoors, especially parks. With all the fresh air, sunlight, breeze, and nice green grass..its the ultimate feeling of calmness and relaxation one should have when learning martial arts even though i hardly get to do this. JackCrevalle Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 I'd like to "practice" at the dojang but that's pretty much off-limits when class isn't in session. I'd also like to practice in my home but I don't have enough room in any one place to do say forms. I usually end up practicing in a piece of the backyard mostly out of sight of the neighbors.
Shotokan-kez Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 I think if i trained outdoors and was seen i would probably get mobbed by youths lol, although i have been very tempted to video myself doing kata in a nearby field. I do prefer training in the dojo though and when i can at home. Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
wingedMonkey Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 heheh, that is so true though...i don't really practice if there are people around... "If I tell you I'm good, you would probably think I'm boasting, but if I tell you I'm no good, you know I'm lying." - Bruce Lee
The BB of C Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 I love sparring and weapons practice outdoors. As for learning, I like to in a school setting.
lordtariel Posted May 14, 2007 Author Posted May 14, 2007 heheh, that is so true though...i don't really practice if there are people around... I used to practice blocks and strikes while I walked laps around my work at break time until I found out some people were starting to think I had some kind of mental disorder. YoungMan Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 1. In a room with other students.2. Anyplace where I am not disturbed. There is no martial arts without philosophy.
