myo Posted February 21, 2007 Share Posted February 21, 2007 I've been training again for about four weeks now. I began training when I was 12, I had the chance to compete internationally too. After that, like many teenagers, I discovered mj. Now, im in college and doing well. However, I want to stop. tekki Posted February 22, 2007 Share Posted February 22, 2007 The high you get from training, in time, will overshadow any high you ever got from a substance. Any strenuous exercise releases endorphins, which can give you a high in and of themselves, but I think the "karate buzz" is even more intense. This is because of the feeling you get from focusing on your breathing, the stretching, the adrenaline rush from sparring and the sense of accomplishment you get from perfecting your form. Unlike you, I did not practice MA when I was a kid. (I started at 19) However from my experience from the sports and physical activities I did do when I was that age and from my observation of the kids in that age group who train at my dojo, I can safely say that training when you are 12 and training when you are in your early 20s are two different things. You have so much more potential to learn and get that "high" from your training when you are a bit older and can learn to appreciate it for what it is.Best of luck with your new journey. It's not physiologically addictive but that doen't mean it isn't habit-forming to some degree. Habit is a difficult thing to break, especially if you're in the same surroundings and with the same company that you always smoked with before. Yes, martial arts are a good way to give up - they'll fill some spare time in the evenings, take your mind of the ganja, get you away from the people who smoke it and give you a change of scenery. If it was ?..than ALL doctors would prescribe them.Look at the reason WHY? you take drugs? Most people do not like something about themselves. Taking drugs is a form of self sucide.The problem is located in the Unconscious mind. Your belief of yourself for everything you do. ==========================What can we do? ...first you must accept who you are...your father and mother made you and you must accept the body you have. Your life style is because of your parents situtions.Money,riches,fame.....even those people have problems with drug.Accept yourself, be glad for what you have. LEARN: TO LIKE YOURSELF FIRST...this is the first change (everyday in the mirror...say: I like myself and I am making myself better by (fill in the blanks). I feel this NEW Change. I am getting better everday.By doing this everyday....this will help your unconscious mind believe in yourself. That you like yourself and are doing things to improve them.We all have a beliefs of what kind of a person we are in everything we do (the inconscious mind). What type of a martial artist,singer,worker,student,mother,father,son,sports player,listener,talker,everything in our life...we have an opinion of what type of person we are (in the unconscious mind)This can be change by reprograming the UNCONSCIOUS MIND!Read as much information from books and articles you can for self improvements.....tons of info here....take what applies to you.Everyone and Anyone can make changes..just got to believe you can!Just my thoughts here....People look at martial artist as role models. If you keep yourself in the same surroundings, with the same people, who want you to do the same things, then it will be harder to make that change. While not addictive per se, smoking pot is a lifestyle as much as anything, one that will mostly conflict with the major goals of any serious martial artist. I used to smoke pot pretty frequently when in highschool and college, and I'm not too much worse for the wear particularly, but it will definitley hamper lung capacity, and depending on your personality may make it harder for you to motivate. Friends are really what makes it hard to quit this substance -as this is a mostly social habbit. A change of friends may be in order if your serious about quiting. For better or for worse we tend to become like those we associate with... myo Posted February 23, 2007 Author Share Posted February 23, 2007 I just threw away my stash, down the toilet. It's a new start, Thank you. The first class I took was a very deep experience. Being in the dojo, following directions, working out, everything made something spark up there. The second week, I had a fight with two of my 'smoking' buddies. I didn't know why I chose to split from them, I guess, My unconscious mind was acting for itself. The spirit was present.Since then, I can go on and tell you how Im willing to embark in this journey.
