NASCAR, anyone?

Ok, now with football season over, and Major League Baseball looming in the distance, I turn to NASCAR for comfort.

Actually, I love circle track racing. I grew up around dirt track racing, and my dad even raced a stock car for about 5 years while I was a kid. My dad was a Dale Earnhardt fan, and my dad kind of got me started in NASCAR as well.

My wife and I both enjoy the sport, and have fun watching it together, and even have gotten into arguements over it! I'm a Chevy guy, she is a Ford gal. I like Tony Stewart and Dale Jr., but don't mind seeing a few others win. My wife is a Carl Edwards fan. This keeps things interesting around the house during racing season.

How about anyone else? I thought we could discuss the season here, as long as we keep it clean and controlled! Us race fans can be unruly at times!!

So, Tony Stewart won his 3rd Bud Shootout last weekend, and what I got to see was pretty good racing. I don't normally like the restrictor plate tracks, but it went pretty well with only half the cars on the track as usual. A lot more fun, a lot less wrecks. Except that one at the very end of the race. You know those wrecks have to drive the car owners nuts!

Also this week, there has been a few issues with Qualifying runs being thrown out. Matt Kenseth's car and Kasey Kahne's car were found to have illegal aerodynamics on them, and Michael Waltrip's car was found with a substance in the manifold, I think. He claimed it was oil. Anyhow, Kahne's and Kenseth's qualifying times have been disallowed.

Rookie David Gilliland and his teammate Ricky Rudd are sitting inside and outside for the start of the Daytona 500 this weekend. I think it is the first time teammates have accomplished this feat.

I can't wait until racing starts!!!

You know those wrecks have to drive the car owners nuts!

Imagine how the shop guys feel after slaving over a car all week to get ready for a race, only to see the car get wrecked, or worse, destroy the main car during qualifying and the backup car during the race

No doubt! All that hard work. All that cash!

Apparently, there were 4 crew chiefs suspended for the Daytona 500, and the drivers were all docked 50 points prior to the race this weekend. Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Elliot Saddler, and Scott Riggs' crew chiefs all got suspended, for making illegal adjustments to the cars.

Saddler, Riggs, and Kahne are all on the same team, (car owner Ray Evernham).

Kahne's chief was suspended for 4 races, Kenseth's for 4 races. Riggs, and Saddlers' were suspended for 2 races each. I think that each were docked 50 points as well.

Apparently, Michael Waltrip may be facing even more severe punishments for things found on his car.

Just found out that Waltrip's crew chief and team director have both been suspended indefinitely by the rules committee. Waltrip has also been docked 100 points! :o Talk about being in a whole! Even if he wins the race, he will still be behind the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in points! Apparently, they found an illegal substance in the intake manifold of the car.

I love watching NASCAR! :) I love the spinouts and the bumps as long as the driver walks away but I especially LOVE watching the women :D who love watching NASCAR and getting a glimpse of their favorite driver. Mighty nice I much say :) ...the women that is. :D

Did anyone see the Daytona 500 this weekend? A pretty good race, although most of my favorite drivers ended up watching the finish.

Harvick pulled the sweep, and won his first Daytona 500 in the process. Congrats to him. Jeff Burton looked good, too. It may be another solid season for RCR.

I don't get to watch Truck races, because I don't get Speed Channel. However, I did see the finish, and it was a bad deal for him.

Kenseth got to pull the sweep this weekend. Congrats to him. I thought Harvick could have caught him, but that flat tire sealed the deal. Bummer for Kevin; he had a rocket! It's all good, though; Kenseth was one of my fantasy picks this week.

The DEI cars seemed to have some engine problems, unfortunately. Truex was looking fast, and had a good qualifying spot. Dale thought he had the problem fixed, but alas, did not.

I also noticed that Michael Waltrip, the flagship owner for Toyota, failed to make the race. Still being -27 points, I think he will unfortunately be spending the rest of the seaon digging his way out of the whole. I look for him to make the transition from racer/owner to owner within the next few years.
