Bon Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 Man, you have got to do swimming! It's so much better than running.. Plus, you don't get hot or anything =) It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.
Phantasmatic Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 That's true, I love swimming, you should just do some extra MA on the side. "Which one is more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?" - Obi Wan Kenobi
Jack Posted May 22, 2002 Author Posted May 22, 2002 No swimming pools anywhere near me. Going once a week would be a challenge, going 5 times a week is damned near impossible. I am very busy timewise anyway, juggling school, coursework, training and sleep is a fine balance as it is. JackCurrently 'off' from formal MA trainingKarateForums.com
tessone Posted May 22, 2002 Posted May 22, 2002 Whoa. I'm going to try the first few weeks in a cycle til the end of June, then when I'm at Middlebury and have time and access to a swimming pool, I'll try six weeks of the program, as I'll only be there six weeks. Bon Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Dips.. You have two bars either side, you grip them both with your hands, then lower yourself down, then push yourself back up, then down again and so forth without assistance of your feet.. You know ? You've probably seen a picture of Arnie with these heavy weights attached around his waist while he does his dips.. You can get a chair or something, place your feet on a bed or something, then proceed to do dips using the side of the chair as your bars. It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.
Dbzhub Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 you only have to do this 3 times a week? pshh easy smeasy.. the only problem is- is swimming what is an alternative, bike riding? Do or do not, there is no try
Jack Posted May 25, 2002 Author Posted May 25, 2002 on the SEALs site it says biking is an alternative to swimming, but it must be done for twice the duration. If you have the time, try that. Of course you can simply take some things from their routine and mix it with other things and your own input, get something that works for you. Bitseach Posted May 27, 2002 Posted May 27, 2002 Yikes! Dips are triceps dips. If you imagine you are standing between parallel bars, put each hand on the bar beside you with knuckles away from your body. Take your weight on your arms by stepping or jumping up so that your body is straight and arms straight (though elbows not locked is best!). Then dip your chest down so that your chest is level with your fists and push back up to the straight arm position. One. If you go to a gym where they have the "chin-ups" machine upon which you can support part of your weight by kneeling on a padded support attached to a counterbalance, this machine usually had a dips part too. This means you can build up the muscles to do the dips until you are able to take your whole weight (if you can't already!) and is useful for creating "muscle memory". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~My karma will run over your dogma~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
