TKFO187
What does it mean when you have a black belt equvalent? Can someone please explain this to me?
TigerDude
Since black belts themselves mean different things in different styles, I'm not sure how an equivalent would work.Generally, a black belt means that you are an advanced beginner, ready to tak on higher-level learning. If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him. You must thoroughly research this. - Musashi
bushido_man96
I have never heard that term before. Very interesting. ps1
In what context did you see this? "It is impossible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenius."
ramymensa
Now that's something I didn't hear either. Am curious to find more about this World Shotokan Karate
lordtariel
I believe the term is for styles that don't hold belt systems when they compete or train with other styles. There's no place like 127.0.0.
Shotokan-kez
Yeah maybe it has got something to do with different belt systems, but i have never really heard of it either. In our club if your a black belt, then thats what it is. Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
bushido_man96
I believe the term is for styles that don't hold belt systems when they compete or train with other styles. This may be the case. I have never heard of any boxers, kickboxers, or wrestlers use the term, though. It may also relate to open tournaments, with all styles welcome, and using time in training to equate a skill level, i.e., the black belt 'equivalent.' https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Feathers of Doom
perhaps its just a way to describe an aspect of a particular person. say you have your purple belt and don’t know advanced kata, but you can fight as well as a black belt. you are "black belt equivalent" in sparring. When practicing Nunchaku, it is best not to stand under lights....seriously; I have broken more lights that way.
granmasterchen
another option may be to say that you have studied tangsoodo and have a black belt, since your forms may be the exact same forms as a shotokan school down the road then you may be observed as a black belt equivalent in that school since you've never trained there but your training in your style is very similar to another? That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
