Chest/triceps

Jump rope for warm-up: 3x1:30. Did a few crossovers, but most of the time I had problems.

Bench press: 205x8, 225x4, 225x4

Alternating one-arm dumbbell press: 50x8x3

Dip machine: 215x8, 215x6, 215x6

Abs

Roman chair crunches: 3x20

Side raises: 2x20x30 lbs.

Forearms

Gripper machine: 3x15x20 lbs.

Taught Orientation from 5:30 - 6:00.

Traditional Class from 6:00 - 7:00. We went through basics at a bit faster pace today, and I felt drained, and like I couldn't get my technique right. We went on to forms and one-steps, like normal. After one-steps, we did some advanced forms, doing 3 of them, with small breaks between. Although I was feeling kind of lousy, I liked the extra work and review. Instead of sparring, we finished up doing a back-and-forth partner drill; I do one technique (kick), and then my partner did one, then me one, etc. After around 30 seconds, it was switched to two techniques back and forth, and then went to 3, and then back to one. Overall, it was a good, hard class. Afterwards, I had a good stretch, then did a set of 10 push-ups, followed by 5 clapping push-ups.

Solo Workout: Kicks on heavy bag

Crossover side kicks: 10 each leg, from a sitting stance

Step-behind side kicks: 10 each leg, from a sitting stance

Front leg side kicks: 10 each leg, from a fighting stance

Back leg side kicks: 10 each leg, from a fighting stance

Push kicks, alternating legs: 3 sets of 20

Jab/cross/back leg round kick: 10 combinations on each side, from a fighting stance. Punches were to the body, as was the kick.

On the side kicks, I tried to concentrate on the chamber positions, and making the kicks powerful, fast, and penetrating, and not pushes. I did this workout from 5:00 - 5:25, followed by a quick stretch.

Taught Orientation from 5:30 - 6:00.

We had a small testing at our school today, with a small number of colored belts testing. However, the black belts did a small demo for the parents/audience. We did an abbreviated version of basics, which went fast, and got the blood flowing. Other black belts demonstrated forms, and I did a few advanced forms. Then we did one-steps, and a few did some sparring. Then, we did board breaks. I did a flying side kick over 3 kids, into two boards. I was a little worried about this technique, because it will be a requirement for when I test for my 3rd decided. I took one practice run, to make sure things were lined up right, then I did the break, and got it on my first try. I was so pleased with myself! What is weird, though, is that I don't remember seeing the boards break. I definitely felt them break; the break felt really good. I remember feeling the boards break, looking where I was landing, and that was it.

Worked out yesterday after walking around the Washington Zoo for four hours in the humid 90 degree heat. I took the kids to the pool to cool off and lifted.

Tomorrow I'm taking my wife to Germany for two weeks for our 20th, so I doubt I'll get too many workouts in. I will hike in the Alps, though. Rough, I know...

Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.

Today, I did an easy walk through of my forms and one-steps, to review for testing this weekend. It took me about 20 minutes, and I didn't go very hard. I got a sweat going, but kept everything low-key.

Today, I had my testing. It went from 11 am to 1 pm. It consisted of doing all of our one-steps, 3 forms, 2 rounds of sparring against much younger, faster, and fitter guys than myself, and board breaking. I always get a good workout from testings, because I really but my behind to impress. It felt good, and I felt confident in all of my material.
