That sounds like a fun class to be a part of, ps1. I don't take a lot of face punches in my training, so I try to work on it from time to time. It is tough at times. I get into the habit of anticipating, and it usually gets me hit, and then I blink more.

5-23-07

Back/shoulders:

Assisted pull ups: plate 13x10, plate 12x10, 12x10

Back hyperextensions: 3x15

Dumbbell hang clean and press: 40x10, 8, 8

Conditioning:

Jump rope: 5x1 min. rounds.

Punch out/kick out rounds: 3x30 sec on punches, then right into 3x15 sec on kicks. I did the punches, and then the kicks, and then rest for 1:30. Then, I had a good 10 minute stretch.

In class, from 6:00 - 7:00, I did low rank forms and one-steps, 7 forms in all. I also had the kids doing kicking combinations in between the forms and one-steps work.

Drank beer, watched the Indy 500. Too bad my girl Danica didn't win.

Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.

I finally got to do something this week! Today, for about an hour, my brother and I worked on some knife combat exercises that I have read about in my recent Medieval Combat manual. We worked only on covers, and focused on getting lots of repitions in, to get the muscle memory down.

Chest/Triceps:

Bench press: 135x10, 225x5, 235x4 (with assistance), 245x2 (with assistance)

Triceps push-down: 105x8, 105x8, 105x6

Overhead triceps ext: 90x10 90x8, 90x8

Roman Chair crunches: 2x20

Conditioning:

Jump rope: 3x1 min.

Did Combat Hapkido/Close Quarters Combatives from 3:30 - 4:30. We spent most of the time on finger attacks, mainly to the eyes, working in various scenarios. We worked standing, kneeling, and on the ground. The ground work was tiring, too!

From 5:00 - 6:00, I did Forms work. I did 17 forms in all. I was tired! And then, I had Traditional Class from 6:00 - 7:00. I hadn't slept well the night before, and with the combination of the forms from before, I was very worn out for class.

Chest/triceps

Bench press: 205x6, 215x4, 225x2 No spotter today.

Skull crackers: 70x10, 80x6, 85x4

Overhead tricep ext: 90x10, 90x10, 90x8

Abs

Roman chair sit-ups: 2x20

Bend-over, reach-backs: 10 each side, using a 5 lb. dumbell.

Swiss ball roll-out (praying mantis): 10 These last 2 ab exercises I got out of Solo Training 2. In the book, Christensen recommended only doing one set of each, 2 times a week, and then adding as you feel more comfortable. They were both kind of ackward, and they did make my gut a little sore! If anyone wants explanations on what he calls them, and how he explains them, just let me know.

Conditioning

Tuck jumps: 3x10

Jump rope: 3x1 min. rounds

Sledgehammers: 3x1 min. rounds, 1 min. rest

Pool

I took my daughter swimming, so while I was there, I decided to practice some kicks in the pool. I didn't do a whole lot, but I wanted to be able to kick in class this evening, too!

Front leg swings (pulling down, too): 2x10 each side

Front kicks: 2x10 each side

Side kicks: 2x10 each side

Back kicks: 2x10 each side...these were especially tiring.

Taught Orientation from 5:30 - 6:00. The kid I have now is very sharp; his stances are already good, and he has pretty good technique. Traditional Class from 6:00 - 7:00.

Yesterday we did body conditioning in class. Hard blocking and kicking drills, taking hits to the stomach and back, situps, pushups, resistance punches and the like. Feel like someone took a basebal bat to me.

Man, I'll bet that was a rough class. I hope you heal up well! :)

Well enough, it's been two days and I can move without pain at least. Would have been easier but I spent about 20 minutes of the class the day before doing sparring drills with sensei. I was bruised in places I didn't know could be bruised. :D
