baronbvp Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Huge day. Lots of heavy lifting. I found a leg machine I like at the gym. Squats today to 400, as high as it goes. Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.Martial arts are like kinetic chess. Your move.

Taught Orientation from 5:30 - 6:00. Traditional Class from 6:00 - 7:00. Class felt good. The knees hurt to start out, but I was able to get the kicks up again. During sparring, we worked on jamming the opponent. I focused on keeping my guard up, and punching. I also had a good stretch out during the class. I worked the splits, middle, left and right, and then worked them seated. About 30 seconds on each stretch x2. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

I did a low rank form, followed by an advanced form, and then followed by the one-steps for the low rank form in that set. Then, I would rest a little. I did this a total of 6 times, doing 12 forms total, and the one steps. Then, I stretched out, doing splits, left and right, then seated, forward, left and right. Stretched both legs forward, grabbing feet. I also stretched my arms, across the body and behind the head. Each stretch was done for 20 - 30 seconds each, twice each. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
bushido_man96 Posted May 10, 2007 Author Posted May 10, 2007 5-9-07Taught Orientation from 5:30 - 6:00, focusing on round kicks, especially the chamber and the base foot rotation. I did my little forms routine again today as well, doing a low rank form, and then 2 advanced forms, followed by the low rank one-steps. I did it 3 times, for a total of 9 forms, and then the one-steps. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
bushido_man96 Posted May 16, 2007 Author Posted May 16, 2007 5-14-07Chest/triceps:Bench press: I went up in weight here today, woohoo!! 205x7, 215x5, 225x3. I would have pushed for at least one more rep on each set, but I didn't have a spotter, so I erred on the side of caution.Triceps push-down: 90x10, 105x6, 105x8Overhead triceps extension: 80x10, 90x8, 105x6Bench dips: 3x10Abs:Roman chair sit-ups: 2x15 with 22 lb. medicine ball.Side raises: 3x25x25 lbs.Trunk twists: 3x20 with 45 lb. weight.Worked on Combat Hapkido from 3:30 - 4:30. It was more along the lines of CCQ stuff, doing gun-draw and knife defenses. I learned a lot, and it was fun. We worked with rubber band guns, which was very interesting and revealing. I also did 10 minutes of heavy bag work, fairly continuously. I focused on punching, and getting close and doing elbows and hooks. Taught Orientation from 5:30 - 6:00. Traditional Class from 6:00 - 7:00. We did some extra basics today, which wore me out, but was fun in the process. We also got to change up our one-steps a little bit, making them more like a flow drill, by adding attacks to the begining of the steps. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
bushido_man96 Posted May 16, 2007 Author Posted May 16, 2007 5-15-07Today was a really fun day! I got to go meet with my dad at nearby gun range, where he does training. We worked on scenarios, where we would approach a car, checking to make sure it was secure, and then moving into a building afterwards. We addressed negotiating hard corners, and we worked on "slicing the pie." I learned a lot, including the fact that I still have a lot to learn. Overall, I feel like it was a very productive activity, and I plan to do more of it. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
bushido_man96 Posted May 17, 2007 Author Posted May 17, 2007 5-16-07At 5:00, I did some more bag work, for about 15 minutes, continuously. I really focused on a jab/cross/hook combination, making sure to get my hips into each of the strikes that I did. It really started to wear on my arms, too, which felt really good.Taught Orientation from 5:30 - 6:00. One of the kids was having a little trouble with the idea of actually going into the regular class. So, I talked it over with him, and convinced him that it will all be ok. I think that once he gets in there, he will be ok with it.We had Kicking Class from 6:00 - 7:00, although it really wasn't kicking class today. I warmed up by reviewing some high rank forms, including 2 brown belt forms and 2 black belt forms. Then, we worked on our one-step based flow drills. It was a lot of fun, and it really made everyone think. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
bushido_man96 Posted May 23, 2007 Author Posted May 23, 2007 (edited) 5-21-07Chest/triceps:Bench press: 205x6, 215x4, 225x3Incline bench: 135x8, 145x6, 155x3Triceps push down: 105x8, 105x6, 105x6Overhead triceps ext: 90x10, 90x8, 90x8Abs:Roman chair: 2x15Side raises: 3x25x25 lbs.Trunk twists w/45 lbs: 3x20My body is sore today!!Prior to Hapkido, I did some bag work: 3 sets of 20 switching round kicks, and 3 sets of 20 alternating jump spin back kicks.Combat Hapkido from 3:45 - 4:45. I should probably come up for a different name for this section of my workouts, because we really do all kinds of different things, some related to tactics I would use at work. Anyway, we practiced some rear-leg takedowns, doing 3 different variations: the real leg sweep, the inner leg hook reap, and the good ol' hip throw. We also worked on manipulating passive/resistive subjects into arresting techniques, and worked on the block/pass/pin drill as well. ps1 Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 This seems like the appropriate thread for this. Today may have been one of my worst days of training ever:) It's been too long since I practiced any of my boxing skills (over a year). I decided it was time to get back into the MMA class (just for fun) and proceded to fight like a wimp! I even caught myself closing my eyes as a cross was coming my way. Oh well, guess I just train harder and get to that class more often now. The best part of the training session was that I found a HUGE weakness in my skills. I won't let it last long.
