ps1 Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 That sounds bad... How long did it take before you could breathe without pain? I heard that sternum/rib injuries take more than 2 months to heal.It took at least 4 weeks, and it still hurts if someone hugs me hard or if my ribs get squished in any way.I cracked a rib about a year ago. It took about 4 or 5 weeks to heal where I could take pressure on it and it's still a bit sore sometimes. They take forever. I feel your pain on that one. scad Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 my worst injury was when i got kicked while in the hand when i was sparring and my hand bent back and my knuckles touched the top side of my forearm, it was the most painful thing i have ever felt, it took about three months for me to regain the ability to rotate and bend my wrist. i'll never spar with open hands again! nomatter what it be, will power and heart produces great things

Shotokan-kez Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I'll take back what i said in my first thread Last night in training we were doing kumite. I won my first two fights with 3 straight points. Last fight i scored once to the face and then lost when the guy punched me hard in the chest (me being a lady it hurt a lot ). The guy did apologise profusely but where was his control! It was meant to be light freestyle.Anyway i was down on the floor for ages with tears in my eyes, i didnt want to stand up and let people se where i got hit! It doesnt half hurt this morning. Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk

I remember getting hit in a area like that too,I got a light groin kick by my brother, hes about 9,and hes a purple belt,so hes short and accidentaly kicked me not too far and eventually started hopping until he kicked me in my groin area....dude,that kills
jaymac Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 My worst was when I was messing around with another black belt who was about 6 inches taller than me. I gave him a choke hold and he flipped me over his shoulder. Instead of landing on the floor on my back, I landed standing up, ultimately jamming my knee so bad that I collapsed to the ground. My gosh that hurt. To this day, I still have to be careful with that knee. Luckily there were no ligament tears. A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
New Beginner Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Hmmm, where to start? So many over the years. My worst is not probably the most severe but the most far-reaching which was a cracked sternum, as it is still slightly displaced to this day (14 years on) and has contributed to back problems etc, although I can't complain, nothing that serious. Most painful at the time were probably broken toes and a broken hand, my technique improved much after these incidents!
Shotokan-kez Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Oh dear. Sometimes i wonder why we do this. Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
gzk Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Haven't managed an MA injury yet, but I partially tore tendons in my rotator cuff by pitching with insufficient conditioning. It kept me out of baseball for about 12 months. Now I do resistance tubing exercises with it every day. I also tore my hamstring playing baseball, I extended my stride to try and make first base, and, well, I extended too much. The physio said the bruising and swelling were about the worst he'd seen and just short of requiring surgery, he took a photo of it. Battling biomechanical dyslexia since 2007
