I'm sure this has come up before (I never check beyond the first screen! Guilty!) but has anyone ever taken or been tempted to take creatine supplements to improve performance?

Did it work?

Were there any side effects?

Are there any known long-term benefits or problems?

I wouldn't even have considered it but was interested to see in a recent UK TV programme that compared the fitness training methods of science versus military training, that the science team were recommending it to their team and that the people seemed to find it very helpful. (more than placebo?!)

Cheers!

I have been tempted to take Creatine for weightlifting but I decided to go a' la natural

because it just makes me feel better!!

The only thing it has ever done to people I think is that there has been some cases of kidney failure and I think that is all.

This has been used by American athlets for years. It is basically safe unless you want to take the entire bottle and not eat right. Just like Steroids however if you take it and don't lift its not going to help you.

We don't encourage our guys to take anything for football becasue you never know when something will become banned however this is baiscaly harmless.

It creates water retention in the muscles, so you may gain a little weight and look a bit fuller. Creatine is good for weightlifting since it helps you squeeze out a few more reps. I don't have it myself but from what I've heard...

Creatine rocks

Hey guys, ive never tried creatine but i have looked into it. On the whole creatine has been seen to not only improve physical perfomance and looks but test have linked it with helping reduce the risk of heart problems and the same for other organs as well. Links have been made to some forms of cancers but poof has never been found to support these claims. As far as im concerned CREATINE DEFINETLY ROCKS, and wen my next pay check comes in im off to the store. :karate:

When I was lifting and trying to gain weight I was taking protein supplements along with Creatine. When I was taking the Creatine I was gaining an average of 5 lbs. of muscle per month. It def. made me feel stronger and made gaining weight much easier. The side effect was that I lost a lot of flexiblity while I was on it. It does make you hold water more which makes getting ripped a little more difficult. I've also read about people dehydrating while on it. For weight lifting and trying to gain weight I would recommend it but for just Martial Arts training I would just stick with a protein shake.
