It was more true of me when I was younger. In my senior year of high school, I wrestled at 127. Now I weigh 175 at 5'11" - not so slight, certainly not delicate, but built slender. It is still difficult to add muscle mass even when pounding the protein and heavy (for me) weights.

Only as good as I make myself be, only as bad as I let myself be.

Just to throw in my two cents: make sure your diet is good so you can get the proper recovery, as well as getting enough sleep at night.

It seems that there are conflicting messages out there about how to train. On the one hand you hear that you should have a day of rest in between hard workouts, but I don't know if this refers specifically to weight training or not. The thing is, I am an older beginning (intermediate) student, and every class seems like a hard workout. :o Especially after classes where we have done a lot of moving basics in low stances, my quads and other leg muscles are aching the next day. I can't see skipping a day of training, though, and usually attend classes 5x/week. My question is, is it a bad thing to train even though your muscles are really sore, or would it be better to skip a day? I do try to spend extra time stretching and warming up before the next class, when I'm really sore -- FWIW.

You said you were an older begining/intermediate student but not what "older" range you are in. As we get older it takes a longer recovery time between workouts to recover. Taking a rest day midweek might be an excellant idea for you; or even cutting back to three days a week. Cutting back may actually improve the quality of your workouts.
