How did you find your MA school?

I heard about the school from my son's friend who we took in for a few months. He studied it with his uncle when he was younger. I had never heard of the style so I googled it and found a post about it on KF made by karatekid1975. I pm'd her and it turns out she was a student at the mainschool! The rest is history...I have developed a great friendship with her and have opened my own charter school. Thanks Laurie and KF!!!!!!

Mmmmmmmmmm, got into Judo at the YMCA when I was a kid, my parents thought it would be good for me (they were right)! Took Isshin-Ryu with one of my sisters, she later got into Shotokan (still is). Then I went and took White Lotus Gung Fu from Sifu Douglas Wong from a friends recommendation. Moved, started and still taking Shorei-Ryu.

I wasn't happy with the school that I was training at and a friend kept telling me to try a certain school and he was sure that I would be a lot happier. It turns out that he was rught!

I had known this school existed in a nearby city and heard great things about the instructor. My excuse i guess was that I didn't want to deal with the drive. 6 years later, the same instructor opened a school in my area. I joined and was hooked the first day. Man, was I foolish. I could have had 6 years of training under my belt with this great organization, but I thought it was too far to travel.

You need to ask yourself what you want out of your style\ dojo \ Instructor? (self defense, sport, cardio,...whatever it is that gets you to train...)

I stopped into several martial arts schools and talked with the Instructor(s).

I got a really good gut feeling at my current school (instructor(s), other students, style,...) and stayed. (I'm never leaving )

I have been training there for over 6 years now

I learned about my current school from a friend of mine (we had been in TSD classes together until the school closed years earlier). His Dad knew the instructor through his work.

I picked 'other'. Here's the reason why:

I've been interested in the martial arts for some time, so when my mom offered to pay for lessons, I jumped at the chance. My mom found a YMCA that was offering TKD. When my instructor switched Y's, I went with him. I'm still with him, by the way!
