bushido_man96 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 man...so dissapointing. Turns out Bobby Lowe is retiring and doesn't hold classes. I don't know of any where else that teaches kyokushin karate where i'm from. I would say try to find something similar, and try to expand your work in kyokushin as you advance in the rank of your current system. Like trying to find training partners outside the dojo, or things like that. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
IRKguy Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 I have never lost any weight doing Karate, and I've been doing it for years. The weight I have gets harder and people say they think I have lost weight, but I only gain weight doing Karate. However, at 185 lbs, I walk softer than 150 lb people in my office who shake the floor when they walk. I take 100 mile bikerides when I have a free weekend, and I can hike for as long as I want to (days) with a full Alice pack and camping gear. I'm in better shape for doing Karate, but it takes cardiovascular exercise and less food to lose weight. Karate is mostly anaerobic exercise. However, is weight really an issue? In Karate, extra weight can actually be an advantage, once you're used to moving it quickly. You have a right to your actionsBut never to your actions' fruits.Act for the action's sake,And do not be attached to inaction. Bhagvad Gita 2.47
AT Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 well losing the weight isn't my primary concern. Being healthy is. If i can stay healthy and not have to lose the weight then that would be ok i guess, but i still would like to lose maybe 50-60 lbs just to have that ideal "look" that most people want to achieve. AT Posted December 5, 2006 Author Posted December 5, 2006 oh btw an update on my kyokushin search. This is what i had posted initially when inquiring about kyokushin karate classes from Mr. Bobby Lowe:man...so dissapointing. Turns out Bobby Lowe is retiring and doesn't hold classes. I don't know of any where else that teaches kyokushin karate where i'm from.and the little story i told on https://www.kyokushin4life.cominitially when I had called him he told me he was retired and not conducting classes. But with some searching around...i found these websites http://seinenkai.com/ and http://hawaiikodanshakai.com/. Both has the same webmaster, Mr. Charles Goodins. I emailed Mr. Goodins asking if he knew any kyokushin dojo locations. Instead he called Mr. Lowe and told him about my email. Mr. Goodins then replied to my email telling me to ask about Dojos in hawaii and to mention to Mr. Lowe that i talked to him. I called the next day and had a short conversation with Mr. Lowe. He then told me that he was only "semi" retired and that there are still classes Mon - Thursday. So now I got the address of the dojo and plan on going there sometime in the next month or two to check them out. I would go check it out this week if i could but i just lost my damn job and i need to go find a new one so i can afford classes heh.looks like i'll be able to train in it after all! But not until i get my job back. So i'll be doing some cardio for the time being. Stand tall and shake the heavens.
