Ratsenol Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I was in the same position as you earlier this year. I studied Wado-Kai from the time I was 8 until I was 15 and received my Shodan-Ho (basically a black belt in training in our style which is between brown and black). After taking 14 years off (and putting about 80 lbs on!!!), I went back in April of this year at 5'7 and about 205lbs. I'm a whole lot slower than I used to be, and can't kick as high as I used to, but you'd be amazed at how quickly everything comes back to you.Good luck and have fun!
Brandon Fisher Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Note not all traditional Karate styles use the low stances of shotokan. The Okinawan Shorin Ryu systems tend to use higher stances as do some other Okinawan systems. Brandon FisherSeijitsu Shin Do
AT Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 wow what a supportive group. It really puts my mind at ease knowing that there are/were people who were in the same situation. I guess the only thing left for me to do is to go out and look for a style that I really want to learn and find a good teacher to learn from. Thanks all. Stand tall and shake the heavens.
AT Posted November 18, 2006 Author Posted November 18, 2006 BTW have you guys seen this vid? that vid and the highlight of "Ryu Narushima" kinda makes me want to take kyokushin karate now heh. Too bad there's only one school anywhere near me and it's still kinda far. Stand tall and shake the heavens.
