I passed my first brown stripe test today!

I took the first part of the test last year, and then had the stomach flu the 2nd day! So I had to wait on the philosophy part of the test until now.

I'm so excited! :D

Hehehe, I thought abourt it ,but it would be too long, plus I'm 17 now so I'd have to change the whole thing :D

As for Cuong Nhu, it was developed by Ngo Dong about 50 years ago in Vietnam. It is a mix of the strongest attributes of Shotokan, Vovinam, Judo, Aikido, Wing Chun, and western boxing.

At first you work on hard style stuff, then as you become more advanced more soft style is incorperated into the curriculum. As far as I know there are about 65 dojos, most in the U.S. Some in Europe, and Vietnam.

If you want to know more pm me, there's a pretty cool story behind Ngo Dong coming to the US.

Nope, Next come's 2 brown stripes on my green belt, then a brown belt. I don't know if this was taken from another style or not, but here is the analogy that is used for our ranking system.

White belt represents a seed,a beginger is like a new seed.Just as a seed begins putting down it's first roots for a firm foundation, so does the new student.

one green stripe- is like the first leaf on a newly sprouted tree,a first achivment and the means for more progress.

two green stripes- at this stage the tree is busy putting forth new leaves and roots, just as a student is working to polish stances, techniques, and principles.

green belt- represnts a young tree in full leaf,a long way to go yet, but all of the essentails in place

roots leave and bark.Likewise a student at this stage now puts all energy into growth.

1 brown stripe- brown is the color of the earth, and also of bark, during this time the student works on building strength and toughness just as the tree is thickening it's bark

2 brown strips- and the tree continues to grow to..

brown belt-the tree is now firmly rooted and strong, with thick bark.

1 and 2 black stipe- the tree begins to to mature and it's bark weathers and darkens. So also the student as they develop their teaching skills.

black belt- represents a tree that is now fully mature(adult) and the student earn the title of sensei and takes on a teaching role.

Then as you go through the dan ranks you earn red stripes which signify fruit on the tree.

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, a spirit of power, and of self-discipline.
