scottnshelly Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Just for the sake of arguement, I'm going to say you did the right thing. If it was a different situation an apology (even at the expense of chasing him down) would be in order, however, you were in a large crowd of bikers. Most biker rallies involve alcohol and rowdiness anyway. He ran away, so if you would've chased him down or hollered to apologize, he might've retaliated. My first defense is to avoid a potential confrontation. What if he would've gotten upset; by following him you presented him the opportunity to strike back. By letting him go you have avoided his retaliation. Now if a large angry mob was to form around to get revenge, a loud and sincere apology would be the best thing.Either way, it is easy for all of us to say what we would've done and what was the right thing to do. In reality, it's hard to say at the time.At least you didn't follow through with a kick to the knee, palm to the nose and several other devestating blows. Good job.
P.A.L Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I think you really wanted to hit him, in a bike show it's the most normal to bump into someone, and i can't believe you did it with no control, the whole shotokan is about control and you are a dan rank,

Shotokan-kez Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Yeah like someone else mentioned, if you hit everyone who bumped into you, you would have been arrested loads of times. You obviously feel a little guilty otherwise you wouldn't have posted this thread and asking 'should i apologize?' I would say yes, definatly apologize. But you said the guy ran away, so do you know who he is and where to find him? Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
RichardHangHong Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Definitely apologise, to both the guy and your Sensei.Sounds like you over-reacted and without thinking either. Your first reaction in an event like that should be to assess, rather than just lash out. A little thought can go a long way. TigerDude Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 1. You need to re-calibrate your automatic responses. You don't need to throw an elbow as a response to getting bumped into in a crowd.2. You should have immediately put your arms up & said loudly, "dude! sorry man!" A defensive posture makes it look like you want a fight. If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him. You must thoroughly research this. - Musashi
tke010 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 you are very lucky a biker brawl did not break out.I think that eneded the best possible way, the other guy leaving. Many bad things could have happened.... People situations very differently. Some biker could have attacked you when trying to appologize, thinking you were picking on him... then his buddies jump in... (that would not end well...)you definitely need to apologize to your sensei!!!!if you see the guy (you hit by accident), you should apologize to him as well. but, if not - just let it go. stay humble. and please try and think before you attack the next guy at a biker event. glad you are safe and not arrested. what is the statue of limitations on assault? ff100 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I'm interested in what your Sensei said to you about the incident?
Fish Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I heard of someone else who did something similar. He was also a BB. His best friend jumped him from behind as a joke. He immediately reacted with a strike which broke his friends nose - it was an instant reflex reaction, not a considered response. But definitely apologise if you get the chance.
