P.A.L Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 (edited) everybody should try this, spar with no blocking at all, force yourself not to block(i guess it's ok if you block on reverse punch to avoid a knock out), just evading and counter moves. you do that for a while and see the difference, Edited September 15, 2006 by P.A.L
MisterRadley Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 P.A.L, that's an interesting idea. It sounds pretty cool.
bushido_man96 Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 That is an interesting one, P.A.L. It would teach you to move, that is for sure. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
P.A.L Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 That is an interesting one, P.A.L. It would teach you to move, that is for sure.exactly,i learned things which help me a lot1- i wouldn't close my eyes when i get punched like before and i can disengage more effectively,2- i learned to move under a jab quickly to 45 and come up for a heavy punch to the side of the head3- i learned to move under a jab to 45 and stick a counter jab from under to the chin.4- my penny droped that i can't win without getting hit at all and blocking doesn't solve the problem.
alsey Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 we've done the no blocking drill several times, its really good. if you can get to do this at your dojo its great for developing offensiveness. "Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana
Shotokan-kez Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 Yeah this all sounds very interesting. I think if i remember right we did something silimar in class. It was very good and got you moving quickly on your feet. This is all great advice, thanks everyone. Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
JusticeZero Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 Don't think about "blocking". Think about attacking. Work on your own on attacks that begin out of a defense, and force yourself to focus on those. Keep your own score. "I defend and don't counter or use the defense to better my position (successfully or not): -1 point. I stand in a stance (thus, defensive) waiting for 3 seconds or more: -1 point" "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly." - Baleia
