krunchyfrogg Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I was watching this movie about a week ago (it was on some cable network late at night) and it had some pretty cool martial arts fights in it. But what really took me by surprise was that it said, "Based on a true story" and had some facts about the martial artist portrayed by Van Damme in the movie.I know Hollywood has a history of bending "facts" a whole lot in these "true stories," so I was wondering how much of this story really is true. cathal Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 There are more than a few opinions on this topic. I'd suggest that you check it out for yourself as some conversations I've seen can get pretty heated. You can make up your own mind. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
A_Train Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Frank Dux was the guy though it is suggested that he may be quite a liar. Wiki has some info on him here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_DuxTake a look and you can make up your own mind on him. I play a wrestling game online. bushido_man96 Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 When Hollywood says "based on a true story," it means that they take names and an event, and then embelish the holy crap out of it to make it interesting enough for everyone to watch. As for Dux, I have heard lots of negatives about him.As for the movie, I like it. As for the story...well, it is a good story. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Jiffy Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 It's well known that these sort of competitions do exist, but as for Frank Dux, see posts above. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
