PlasmaShock
when did you people learn jump kicks? my sensei taught me the jump front kick when i was a 5th kyu. i always knew how to do them good but not high in the air. but the important thing is to apply what you learn in basics and use them in advanced techniques. i think they are good exercise to get your speed up and stuff like that but they don't have much practicality. MizuRyu
I learned around 6th kyu in Tang Soo Do, right before I had to let it go.I think they have their purpose. I've heard good old reasons, many Chinese styles use high jump kicks to take people off horses. But in this day and age the only real use is the 'blast and pass' idea. If you're surrounded, taking out the biggest guy with a sprinting jump kick and then RUN. lol "They look up, without realizing they're standing in the palm of your hand""I burn alive to keep you warm"
bushido_man96
I started learning jump kicks at 2nd and 3rd grade levels. The more advanced ones came later on, like the jump spin outer crescent, and kicks like that. You are right about the basics, though. Got to have them down to get good jump kicks. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Shotokan-kez
We don't really learn jump kicks in our club, i don't know if thats shotokan in general or just our club that doesn't do them. Although there is a double front kick in kanku-dai and lots of big jumps in other kata's, just no jumping kicks! Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
alsey
the only one i've learnt properly is the one in kanku dai, which i learnt at 1st kyu. one lesson though, our sensei got everyone from green belt up doing flying kicks. we put mats up against the wall and on the floor, and just ran at the wall and did the best flying kick we could do. it was great fun. ninjanurse
I my shotokan school we did not learn jump kicks until Black Belt. In TKD we start at novice levels (white-orange-yellow)-very basic but helps develop the coordination and leg strength for the more difficult ones later. Killer Miller
In traditional Karate (Shotokan) we do not teach or learn flying type of Jump kicks. Our concept is that "one" foot is always in contact with the floor/ground...- Killer - Mizu No KokoroShodan - Nishiyama SenseiTable Tennis: http://www.jmblades.com/Auto Weblog: http://appliedauto.mypunbb.com/Auto Forum: http://appauto.wordpress.com/
cathal
In our own Shotokan dojo we learn it around 5th Kyu. It is part of a few of our katas as well, like Gankaku, Unsu, etc. so we do practice it, but not as much as I'd personally like. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
