Dealing with second hand smoke

Recommended Posts

I work at a casino as a card dealer. One issue has been coming up lately is ETS (Enviroment Tobacco Smoke). My karate training as helped me to become more aware of my health.

I have to work behind a table for 8 hours or more. When get off work not only I stink but I fell so sick.

To keep from boring you..is their any type of suppliments i can get that can hel my body fight off the effects of the poisons from ETS? Also what about breathing excercise to help my lungs rid the bad air?

ps-I'm a non smoker myself.

Thanks

I am not sure if supplements will help. You can possibly detox the body but second hand smoke in the lungs is suppose be dangerous. It will be interesting to see if anyone can offer a good suggestion for you. Good luck.

as far as i know there's not much you can do, its essentially the same thing as smoking. the only way to get rid of the effects is to get out of that environment and stay out of it. i'm an ex-smoker and if i could have negated the health risks with suplements, i'd probably still be smoking.

That's a really good point! If supplements would help then people would be smoking, taking the supplements and not encountering the ill effects of smoking

There are currently no medicine that can help with ETS...

However, it would be advisable to have a week off work (and go somewhere like a forest for 5 days) to competely purge your lungs of the smoke particles...

Or like Pastuai said, Dextox your body.

You might also need to consider about changing jobs, being in an environment like so, and you being aware of your health, that you should look somewhere else...

HOWEVER; that is YOUR choice... ;) :)

Definately no supplements. If you really care about your health, I think you should sacrifice your job and try to look for something better. Definately nothing you can do, and 8 hours is alot of time, if anything I would say you are getting more smoke intake than alot of the smokers themselves.

I feel so bad for you. I never thought about the poor individuals who work in the casino's and have to deal with non-stop second hand smoke. When I lived at home with my parents, who are chain smokers, I was constantly sick. It wasn't until I got married and moved out that I realized all those years of sore throats, headaches, upset stomachs was from taking in all that smoke. I hope if for you and your health, you will be able to find something new because the casino's will never ban smoking for fear that their players will go elsewhere with their money.

Second Hand Smoke is the most toxic because there is no filter at that end of the cigarette. For most of us, that poses minimal risk because of the distance, but in your case, you are working inside and in close proximity of possibly mutliple smokers, and for long periods of time.

I wish I could give you better news, but the fact is, you are participating in the worst form of tobacco smoking there is. There are ways you can make yourself feel better, but the lung damage is not reversable. My only advise.... find a new job!!
