Jiffy
Pinan Shodan = Heian Shodan (close enough) The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
bushido_man96
Isn't Pinan Shodan one of the early katas? I read a book on the applied bunkai applications for this kata, and the other Pinan/Heian katas. Very cool stuff. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

patusai
Pian Shodan? Which one. Some schools will use what others call Pian Ni Dan as Shodan. At this time I can't explain it well but it goes something like one being easier than the other but because of a respect issue. P.A.L
the one with hammer fist is Pinan Nidan as Itosu named it, later in Japan they changed it to Heian Shodan since it was easer to start with. I have seen some shito ryu based dojos also swap the names between Pinan Shodan and Pinan Nidan.

alsey
so does anyone know why pinan shodan/heian nidan was originally the first kata? its considerably more complicated than pinan nidan/heian shodan. its something i've never quite understood.
