bushido_man96 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Thought the straightsword was the scholar's weapon...me too and Buhhidist monks use Bo's cause its easier to hold back killing someoneI think the monks used the bo because it was a cheaper weapon, not because it wasn't as hard to maim/kill with it. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
koryu Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I like all the flashy bladed weapons as much as anyone, but they're not very practical today like they used to be. I feel that the Bo and the Escrima are two of the most practical weapons, because just about anywhere you go, you can find a couple of sticks or long pole or pipe of some sort (pool stick for instance) that you could use if need be. parkerlineage Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 Kind of like being a gentlemanly fighter.....is there such a thing? Here's a phrase I heard once: "The only guy that says he got hit by a 'cheap shot' is the guy who lost."No, not like a gentlemanly fighter - because there is no such thing. Like a scholar. As lordtariel pointed out. A gentleman and a scholar, eh?and Buhhidist monks use Bo's cause its easier to hold back killing someoneNot seeing the relevance, but, yes.I like all the flashy bladed weapons as much as anyone, but they're not very practical today like they used to be. I feel that the Bo and the Escrima are two of the most practical weapons, because just about anywhere you go, you can find a couple of sticks or long pole or pipe of some sort (pool stick for instance) that you could use if need be.Agreed, but that wan't my point. bushido_man96 Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 That's what I think too, parkerlineage. No such thing as a gentlemanly fighter. No such thing as a fair fight either. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Jiffy Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I guess I stand corrected.... The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
lordtariel Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 No such thing as a gentlemanly fighter. No such thing as a fair fight either. No, just an honorable fighter There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Jiffy Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Even that is rare in today's society. Fighting is no longer seen as an honerable thing by most. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
parkerlineage Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 I'd actually love to know how to say "The Art of Being a Dirtbag" in Japanese or Chinese, because I know a lot of people who are very high rank in that art.
