bushido_man96 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 One handed?!?! That's ridiculous! I don't think I'm strong enough to do that...but I can see how that would make things very hard to fight. My little brother that is.....he is 5'10" maybe, and 350+....yeah, big boy.I weigh 245, and he picks me up and tosses me like a rag doll. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Scotty Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 This sounds so much fun. It's a shame there isn't anywhere like that round here. The martial arts scene isn't exactly huge in north east England The best armour is to keep out of range.
Jiffy Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 In the words of Mr. Miyagi (from KK)"If done properly, no can defence"At the time at which they were popular, they were the only real projectile weapon thus giving a majorly long range. It was also easy for just about anyone to pick up and throw with minimal training. In today's environment though, obviously, it's a little less useful. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
Scotty Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 You throw a spear? I thought you meant like a staff with a pointy bit on the end! The best armour is to keep out of range.
Jiffy Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Yeah, that's what a spear is. It's a stick with a pointy bit on the end. Used like a conventional bo or used at close range with a stabbing motion... or, used to throw for long range. You never watched a cowboys and indians movie?? The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
parkerlineage Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 I don't think the Chinese threw their spears, much, but I could be mistaken. American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker
bushido_man96 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Usually a modified spear, referred to as the javelin, would be thrown. Most spears were 6 foot plus in length, and would have been a bit awkward thowing. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
parkerlineage Posted August 30, 2006 Author Posted August 30, 2006 That's what I was thinking; mine's about seven feet long. American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker
