Shotokan-kez
YIPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! I passed. This morning i felt terrible but as people have said on here it was just like the sickness didnt exist and it was brilliant. I messed up on one part and that was the last three moves of Bassai Dai. A young lad on the side lines had his legs sticking out and i tripped on them, totally messed up my last few moves but sensei saw what happened and didnt judge me on it.I am so happy now, happy to sit on this belt for as long as it takes before grading for my black belt. I am so pleased to be finally 1st kyu! Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk

Shotokan-kez
Thanks new beginner. I see you do kyokushin, i know nothing about it. Is it similar to Shotokan? Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
New Beginner
There are alot of similarities with Shotokan, although Kyokushin probably has more in common with Goju Ryu, it contains elements of both. It's founder, Sosai Mas Oyama, trained with both Gichin Funakoshi and Gogen Yamaguchi and tried to take what he thought were the most effective methods from both, amongst other things. That's putting things very simplistically, but in answer to your question there are similarities. There is a good Kyokushin dojo in Oldham if you ever fancy a nose just to see the differences, not trying to poach you accross but sometimes it's good to just have a look at different things so that you have a broader knowledge of what's out there.
