good luck for tomorrow!

"Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana

High grade gradings are as much a test of character that they are of technique, your sensei effectively knocked you down a peg a couple of sessions ago, and then let your confidence come back for your last session, which is classic pre-grading behaviour. Some senseis even begin to pretend they barely know a candidate, even though they may have graded them for years. Remember the grading examiner has to be and be seen to be, impartial, so your fellow students that weren't allowed to attempt to grade need to see that there's a difference between you and them and that you're not simply a 'favourite'. No doubt these events have helped focus your mind towards achieving the grade, and you will focus much more intently when you step into the grading, and if you are successful it will mean alot to you, more than it would if you had gone in with the confidence you'd had previously. If you're not nervous in a grading you probably shouldn't be there. Good luck!

New beginer thats spot on i think. I have a problem now though. I think i have contracted tonsilitis, my throat is very sore making it difficult to swallow and i have a dreadful headache. My friend has been living with me and she has it. I found out recently that it is contagious throught sharing cups ect. I can't pin point anywhere i may have done that, but its highly possible since we have been living together. I feel quite ill and drained why did this have to happen now. I'm going to the doctors this morning hopefully he can help. Can anyone suggest a 'pick me up'?

Hopefully, you can pull a Michael Jordan, and go out and put on your best show, even though you are sick. I hope it doesn't affect you much. Good luck with the doctor.

It's also typical to pick up an illness before a grading, it's the stress of the training and the pressure that compromises the immune system. You can do it, I had a really bad cold when I took shodan grading, and when I took my sandan I hadn't had any sleep (nerves) and also had a sore throat, it just made me all the more focused and determined, just another part of the test. You'll get through it!

I can almost guarantee you that you won't notice feeling sick during your test. I did my entire black belt test with a moderately sprained ankle, and never noticed it (until it was over. Then it hurt.).

Good luck, and trust me, you won't notice the sickness. A week before my Shodan test a classmate of mine did not stop his trigger finger strike and I got a knuckle jammed into my eye. The vision out of my left eye was blurred for the entire test. You just have to, and probably will, reach a higher level of focus that comes with the pressure.

Also, I know in my school, just before a test (usually within the month befoe) instructors will tend to be harder on the students that will be attempting to advance in rank. For all of the reasons described before plus the fact that they simply want you to to the best, and so they point out every detail of what you need to fix or improve, even if they know you already have what it takes to pass.

Well, I see today's Friday, so do your best, everything else will fall into place, if you're ment to pass, you will.
