Tell me about your Tang Soo Do classes!

Recommended Posts

My TSD trainings? I train twice a week, am highly addicted in some point and get alot out of my trainings. Our club is with the WTSDA.

We practise hand, foot and defence techniques, sparring, step-sparring, hyungs, and combination techniques.

We also do warming up (well yea), and we also kick paddings.

I suppose my post is rather obvious and lacks detail.

Anyway..

Cheers,

Thanks, Myth. What kind of pad drills do you do, and what kind of system do you spar with? Feel free to elaborate as much as you like!

Sparring system, no strikes to the head, no elbows, no backfists, non contact(though there is, in practice, plenty of contact anyway...).

If that's what you ment.

We do pretty much everything you can imagine on pads.... yea, pads are quite cool :).

We have small round ones and huge rectangle ones, and then there is this punch bag we use from time to time to do kicks also.

There are two things I see that are missing, breaking and roleing, they are not used very often but they are their. Also their are two types of sparring, freestyle and tornament, in freestyle anything goes in tornament sparring the rules the guy said erlier go into affect. One more thing we do hand and kicking techniqes, that's where we a barage of punchs, blocks, and kicks.

What all does your freestyle sparring consist of? Is it harder contact? Does it include grappling?

It depends on the people sparring, usually I hit like I was in a real fight, unless I sparring someone of an inopropreat age. Also you can use grappling if your good enough, I wouldn't recommend it.

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you recommend grappling in a Tang Soo Do sparring match?

Because you'll get to focused on getting the person in a grappel you'll lose focus on the fight, but if you can hanndle it go ahead.

What if grappling is your strong suit and it works for you better than striking? I guess I should ask if a lot of grappling is taught in TSD, as I thought that TSD is exclusively a striking art, and if so, I can understand taking the emphasis off of grappling. But if grappling is taught in TSD and you can grapple well, I say go for the grapple. Can you clarify as to what extent grappling is taught in TSD?

My classes are also very strict and very traditional. but i mean we are are a 'hard' style of karate so that explains itself, in alot of the fights we get in we dont even have to strike, our blocks are suppose to be as devastating as a strike. and clearly we kick over any ones head, not saying thats a good thing, but its good for fakes and what not, but i love it, i wish everyone could get into tang soo do. anything you wanna know just message me!
