G95champ Posted May 14, 2002 Posted May 14, 2002 I know the max reccord at WVU for a football player is 540. They said they would not let him try anymore for one because they were uncertin they could get it off him if he did not get it. I would say the world mark is just a bit over 600. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
ckdstudent Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 I used to be able to bench my own bodyweight around 70 kg or 154 lbs and leg press around twice that, then I gave up because it wasn't particularly increasing my power and was slowing me down. I tend to stick to lower weights and more reps now. ---------Pil SungJimmy B
Phantasmatic Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 BENCHING OVER 600!!!!! HOLY MOLY!! "Which one is more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?" - Obi Wan Kenobi
Phantasmatic Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 IMHO clean is the best workout, bench is only for the arms but Clean really gives you power all over your body!! "Which one is more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?" - Obi Wan Kenobi
YODA Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 Current world bench press record: - Scot Mendelson - 755 pounds I can leg press it - for reps - but I ain't gonna try benching it _________________ YODA KarateForums Sempai 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.uk Qualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.uk Qualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology) [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-05-15 16:03 ] YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
G95champ Posted May 15, 2002 Posted May 15, 2002 755lbs wow I knew it was over 600 but thats ungodly. All I can say is wow. I agree with the post above about cleans being the best lift. However whne you bench with proper form you use legs, hips, and every other muscle in your body as well. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
cowboystu Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 G95champ - how do legs and hips come into benching? Am I doing something wrong cos I thought it was just the upper body that worked?
YODA Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 I think he means the powerlifter's bench press where the only thing that matters is the amount of weight moved - once. You're refering to a bench press designed to safely work the pecs (and to a smaller degree the anterior delts & triceps) over a range of reps/sets. _________________ YODA KarateForums Sempai 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.uk Qualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.uk Qualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology) [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-05-16 11:03 ] YODA2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima https://www.docepares.co.ukQualified Instructor : JKD Concepts https://www.jkdc.co.ukQualified Fitness Instructor (Weights, CV, Circuit, Kinesiology)
searcher Posted May 29, 2002 Posted May 29, 2002 Just keep working out and you will get the weight you want. When I was 14 I could only bench 130lbs and by the time I was 18 I was benching 400 with my all-time personal record of 440lbs. It gives you a goal that is why you max out TKD_Mcgee "let those who shed blood with me be forever known as my brother."
Radok Posted July 14, 2002 Author Posted July 14, 2002 Searcher is correct. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
