Brandon Fisher Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Joint locks give me fits, too.Yeah they can be difficult but I had to pretty much learn them trial and error because my instructor at taught them did them by pure muscle and had no idea how to really make it work without forcing it. It was very sloppy with him. I learned the dynamics of them and then was able to drop people that weighed in at 250 fairly easily and these are people he had some fits with because of their size. Not bad for a guy that now weighs 160 and then only went at 135. If you ever need help with them I would be happy to help a little where I can.Sounds good. When I start reviewing my ICHF, I'll be corresponding with you if I have questions.I will be here Brandon FisherSeijitsu Shin Do
shotochem Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Hi All, For me it was they day I finally relaxed my shoulders for the first time. I had just returned from an injury and I was hesitant to really unload, I just took a little somthing off that first punch then It just felt different all of a sudden(like when you get a good pitch and hit it on the sweet spot of the bat) the punches were flowing faster and crisper than before and the kicks just started popping.Less tension= more speed, more power. I figured out how to use my technique and not my strenght. Who wouldda thought??? Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
KarateK Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 For me it was actually reverse punch against a pad, for some reason just wasnt getting any force behind it. Then click, knocked my partner into the next century (well not quite but you get the idea). Karate Ni Sentinashi
cathal Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 I always enjoyed the reverse punch because it felt power powerful. Turns out I had been rolling my shoulder forward in lunge punches, but relaxing and keeping shoulders stationary for the reverse punch. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
Shotokan-kez Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 That rather large turning jump in Enpi...it took me ages to get that right without wobbling and loosing my balance, and of course getting the stance and technique right at the end of the jump. Through constant practising i finally have it right. Also ushiro-geri...i used to dread that kick, in combinations and stuff..but again constant practice and suddenly you can just do it...was very proud of myself hehe.Kez x Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
jaymac Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Kata has always been easy for me, but Jion is the one that is stumping me. I feel awkward in my stances. Practice, Practice, Practice and then Practice more. Roundhouse kick was something that gave me a headache, and then one day I was teaching the kick to a white belt, and I listened to my own advice and wham! ---- I got it. I thought, I should have been talking out loud to myself and teaching myself all along A great martial artist is one who is humble and respectful of others.
