Unfortunately you can't find the answer to all your needs in supplements. Refer to the weight loss thread in this section, there is plenty of help there.

Aww man, I thought he was going to talk about vitamins...

I think some of those special chelated vitamins are what build people. I think that vitamins help people do stretching routines that they never thought possible in the past.

If you want to lose weight, I'd research low carbohydrate diets.. I've been on one for a week and it's working well, check out this link for some more information :

Be careful, I tried a supplement to get rid of the last couple pounds to get that ripped look. And i'm convinced it led to a foot injury basically it sped up my metabolism and reduced some padding in my R foot, thus "Plantar (something scientific)" basically i no longer had enough fat in my foot pad and it hurt like hell. i had to stop for 4-6 weeks and now i'm fine but that's 4-6 weeks gone.

If you want to lose weight then you may want a good Glutamin supplement. Basically, normally a complex carbohydrate will supply your muscles with glutamine after a workout, but if you want to lose weight then you have to cut down on carbs - so taking a supplement of Glutamin(sp?) should help your muscles recover.

A good multi-vitamin is always good, too.

Stop eating fried, fatty foods. Eliminate junk food from your diet. Eat more fruits and vegatables. Eat more wheat. Eat less beef and pork. Continue working out.

That's the meat and potatoes of it(get the pun?) A change in lifestyle is what is needed. Sure there are supplements that help, but to truly do it you've got to change your eating habits. This, btw, is probably the hardest thing to do. Food, that's not too healthy for you, tasts oh so good.

If you want to know some herbs/supplements here they are:

Chromium picolinate(the best form is in the picolinate form)

Ginseng, herbal tea(decaffinated)

Herbal, decaffinated, organic green tea.

A B-Complex.

Taurine(this doesn't really do anything specific to fat, just helps with neural processing(ie speed of synapse response)

Royal Jelly

There are more, but before you even consider taking supplements you need to alter your eating habits. If you already are eating healthily then alter your exercise routine. After all that you could start taking supplements to aid, not take over in work, the process.

If anyone could add, that'd be great. I can't remember off the top of my head the other herbs that are helpful. I'd have to go look in my cupboard or look them up again.

I hope this helps.

I've been on one of the diets before, and although I lost nearly half a stone in a week, i felt sick and faint a lot. When I stopped the diet, the sickness stopped too. Are those low carb diets much use to the martial artist, or was this just a fluke for me?
