scottnshelly Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I remember playing some really fun Martial Arts based video games a lot time ago, before Mortal Kombat. As good as these games were, I can't remember the names. Does anyone remember/know any of the original Martial Arts video games? While we're on the subject, are there any modern Martial Arts video games that aren't all mystical powers and fictional characters? Thanks.
MizuRyu Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 There was this old TKD game for the Atari I remember playing a looooong time ago. Forgot what it was called though. Terrible game lol.A great series of modern MA fighting games is the Dead Or Alive series. It features real arts with real techniques and it can be REALLY fun with some other people. My personal favorite is Kristy.. the snake practitioner. She's a beast. "They look up, without realizing they're standing in the palm of your hand""I burn alive to keep you warm"

Shotokan-kez Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I remember streets as rage on the sega, i'm not sure but i don't think they had any magical powers. I loved that game. Unfortunatly when we were kids we wern't lucky enough to have any of the really old consoles. I can't really go much further back than the sega. melante Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 For me, who am enough old to have started playing this kind of games back in the mid 80ies, two of the best were "The way of Exploding Fist" and "International Karate+" on the C64.I still play them on an emulator sometimes and have great fun (IK+ had also a remake on the PlayStation and, I believe, even more recently on the GameBoy Advance)cheers.roberto
lordtariel Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Let's not forget some of the side scrollers:Double DragonKarate ChampFinal FightShinobi There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Jiffy Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Wow, some classics there.Don't forget "street fighter"Also, "Kung Fu" on the original nintendo. Absolout classic. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
Jiffy Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 I wish there were more games out there for PS2 and XBOX that were more realistic. I'm sick of all these ones that do 20 jumps and mystical powers that shoot ice balls out of their bare hands. Give me a basic old fight game with realistic movements and good graphics..... PLEASE!! The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
cathal Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Let's not forget some of the side scrollers:Double DragonKarate ChampFinal FightShinobiThere's some memories bubbling up to the surface. Remember earning enough points to get another "heart" in Double Dragon? Then you can do those super-neat-o side kicks! .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
