AceKing Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 What exercise can i do to increase the power of my punch?
MizuRyu Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 I always enjoyed static tension punches and clapping pushups. Basically, punch like you normally would, but tense up EVERY muscle in your body into it. Do it till you can't anymore. alsey Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 get a punch bag and use it. every martial artist should have one. "Gently return to the simple physical sensation of the breath. Then do it again, and again, and again. Somewhere in this process, you will come face-to-face with the sudden and shocking realization that you are completely crazy. Your mind is a shrieking, gibbering madhouse on wheels." - ven. henepola gunaratana
AceKing Posted July 20, 2006 Author Posted July 20, 2006 i do have a punching bag but is there anything better
bushido_man96 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Get into a front stance, and prepare to do a reverse punch. Get a partner to hold his hand over your fist, and have him resist as you push out your punch. Vary the resistance to suit what you want. Try doing a 10 second punch as the finisher. Also, don't forget to work your full range of motion, so after you complete the punch, have your partner pull on your fist as you pull it back, or have him push against your retracting elbow. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Aodhan Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 What exercise can i do to increase the power of my punch?Increase the speed of the punch is the easiest method. The faster it goes, the more power it will generate.Strengthen the muscles that produce the punch.Work on proper technique, paying particular attention to the hips and the rotation.Aodhan There are some people who live in a dream world, and there are some who face reality; and then there are those who turn one into the other.-Douglas Everett, American hockey player
parkerlineage Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 First refine your technique. Make sure that your punch begins at your leg, moves to your hip, then your shoulder, then chest, then deltoid, then bicep, and finall turns at the last moment to maximize impact, in addition to the rotation of the back foot, with proper breathing. Weights and tension help, but you can't beat technique. That's how string beans like me can fight the beasts... My claim to fame in my dojo, other than being overly picky about form, is that I can knock one of my 300+ pound training partners backward several paces with a punch. It's all in technique. parkerlineage Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 So I suppose you could make your fist more dense, or heavier, somehow... American Kenpo Karate- First Degree Black Belt"He who hesitates, meditates in a horizontal position."Ed Parker
