drunkenmonkey blackbelt Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Sorry to bother you guys with another wieght problem but I would greately appreciate any help you guys could give me. I'm about 6"3 and wiegh about 290 lbs. I usually work out by lifting wieghts and when I work out I really work out and some say I over do it. The thing is I hate lifting wieghts. Some times I take mild enjoyment out of it but that is when I'm angry or really pumped up. I would really like to lose some serious weight kind of fast. I would like get some alternate ways of loseing wieght out side of wieght lifting. I would really apprciate it. Thanks Water is the softest thing in the world. But it's hard enough to cut through rock. It can take any shape or form. You put water in a cup it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle, you put water in teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water, it can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend. -Bruce Lee
Jiffy Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I see a lot of these questions and get asked the question a lot. I will offer the same standard answer to everyone as follows. (this does not apply to people who have a diagnosed medical problem that directly causes weight gain)CONSUME LESS ENERGY THAN YOU BURNIt really is as simple as that. Either eat less energy or burn more, or both. People that are gaining weight often complain that when they diet, they always feel hungry. Duh! Before trying to loose weight, deal with the reality that you are going to be tired and hungry. If you don't want to be, don't pretend you're trying to loose weight. Once you have that out of the way, you have completed 90% of the battle. Weight loss is not a battle with food, it is a battle with discipline. As mean as it sounds, that's the hard truth. If you can get the discipline down, the rest is easy.Generic Tips for Weight Loss1. Educate yourself. Search the web. Find out what is good and bad for you. Find out what the labels on food means. Use the information you find!2. Eat breakfast!! If you don't, your metabolism will be slow for the day and you will not burn the energy as well. 3. Do not skip meals. Just limit the portion size. Remember, it's about metabolism, not just volume.4. Eat more fruit and veg.5. Eat less red meat, sugar, simple carbohydrates, caffine etc.6. Be realistic. Allow yourself treats, but just keep them very limited.7. Keep a food and excersize journal. Keep track of what you are eating, when and the same for excersize. Record your weight each week. This helps with tracking, but also with discipline. You feel more guilty for picking up a chocolate bar if you have it written down.8. If it's not good for you, don't buy it in the first place. Discipline is easier to excersize at the supermarket than the fridge. If it's not in your fridge, you can't quickly grab it.9. Excersize. Set out a realistic program.10. Goals. Set them. Make them realistic and write them down. Most of all, you need discipline. Set your game plan and do not deviate from it. As I said, weight loss is a battle with your inner self, not what you put in your mouth. The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it's open.
UseoForce Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Basics of Losing Weight: -Find your base metabolic rate and create a calorie deficit. If you don't know what the heck I'm talking about, Google will explain it nicely -Eat more SMALL meals throughout the day rather than 3 big meals. This keeps your metabolism high, prevents you from gorging, and prevents catabolism of your muscles. - Shoot for something like 40% Carbs, 30% Fat, and 30% Protein (in terms of calories). Since your lifting weights, I'd say 40% Carbs, 40% protein, and 20% Fat. The exact percentage is not a big deal, just get away from the 60% Carbs, 30% Fat, 10% protein that I'd figure the average American is at. - Do cardio often and for at least 15 minutes. During the first 10 minutes or so of cardio, your body burns glycogen, not fat, so you want to make sure you spend some time in the fat burning zone. - DON'T DRINK CALORIES! Drink water, or some sort of LIGHTLY flavored water if you have to. - DON'T DRINK POP!!! It is useless high-density sugar. You'll notice after quitting pop (after a week or so) you'll start to feel better. At least I did. Pop made me feel like crap. -Don't eat any empty calories. Basically, don't eat anything that is pure sugar or pure saturated fat. Before you eat something, ask yourself, "Is this going to provide me with nutrients I need?"- Keep lifting weights. In your present condition, you may be one of the lucky people who can gain muscle while losing fat. Even if you can't, lifting weights will slow the loss of muscle tissue. - Get some whey protein you can use to add to your meals whenever you need more protein. -Here's the good part: Once a week, have a meal where you cheat. Eat like a huge bowl of ice cream or have a milshake. Sorry, I'm craving ice cream right now!-NEVER GIVE UP! I used to be overweight and I lost 30lbs, and now have gained some weight back in the form of solid muscle. I feel great, and every one of my efforts has been worth it. If it works, use it!If not, throw it out!
