I once heard someone in class yell "Arrg!" when the preformed their kiai. I tell you, pirates in martial arts. What is this world coming to?

I love it! I'm totally doing it! Landlubbers beware, Pi Rat Do is here!

I think the ones where people are trying to be theatrical are terrible. Not to put down XMA but when you watch some of the people when they do the tournaments on ESPN you can see what I'm talking about.

I don't like watching the Olympic TKD stylists go at it. You can't tell if it is a kicking contest or a yelling contest. They yell on every move, and I think the yelling just comes from the throat, and not from the gut, like a good kihap/kiai should.

In class once (there is only 4 people in my class right now) but I Kiai really loud and kind of deep, and well no one else Kiai. That was kind of emberising but my Sensie was impressed so that kind of took some of the emberisment out of it. But that is what I'm most afrade of is Only I kiai and also if I do it wrong.

Water is the softest thing in the world. But it's hard enough to cut through rock. It can take any shape or form. You put water in a cup it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle, you put water in teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water, it can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

When you practice more you'll become less shy and it won't even matter.

I think 'kiai'ing' is very important but only at the right times and places. It shows power. I once did an awful one. I was performing Jion and my moves were sharp and powerful, i was just about to do the kiai and my throat went funny and it came out as a very high pitched scream like a baby. Everybody laughed and it totally ruined my kata. Tut Tut lol

Yep... That was happened to me when I performed Tekki Shodan! Such an embarrassing moment, but I got on with it, needless to say that everyone was giggling... :D

I remember hearing someone at a tournament-

but I Kiai really loud and kind of deep

I wish I had that problem. The louder I go, the more stomach support I give it, and, being a tenor, the higher and less threatening my kiai becomes.

Although, after the last tourney, several parents who had never actually seen me really moving told me that I have a very scary look on my face when I do my kata, so that can counter it, I suppose.
