mooseman Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Ok,I'm just getting back into the MA and my cardiovascular health isnt what it used to be.I'm a big guy,and thanks to and old football injury, running for a prolonged period of time messes with my bad knee.Having said that,I'm an exceptional rollerblader, and the smoothness of the movement spares my knee.I was just wondering what the best ways to maximize my rollerblading cardio would be.Any idea's,tips, informatiom,or motivation is greatly appreciated. Sohan Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 It's not the same caloric expenditure as running, so you need to do it longer. As I said in my other post to you, you need to keep the legs moving---gliding lowers your heart rate. And don't do all your skating on a flat surface. If you can incorporate some inclines and declines (not hills), it will strengthen your legs quite a bit. The incline grade you choose will depend on your proficiency.I have had clients skate with the runners' parachute at times. Great workout, but looks a little odd, as you would expect. Not something to do in a crowded park. With respect,Sohan "If I cannot become one of extraordinary accomplishment, I will not walk the earth." mooseman Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 thanks for the advice,I'll definetly incorporate some inclines.by the way, sorry about posting a very similar topic, yeah it was late and I wasn't think that I had previously posted a similar topic "YOU are your only opponent in Karate and life""Pain is weakness leaveing your body""There is no glory in practice,But,Without practice,There is no glory.""You must always be prepared to defend yourself and your fellow man."
MizuRyu Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I played hockey for a long time and part of my summer regiment was to find a nice steep hill, rip up it, then practice my turning and braking on the way down. Great workout. Or do a mile, like you would with running, striving to get lower times. "They look up, without realizing they're standing in the palm of your hand""I burn alive to keep you warm"
