emperornero Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 One thing I would like to make clear, age doesnt matter in martial arts. You can start at any age still learn to be very good at it. Also, your physique doesn't matter as well, because if you are dedicated it, youe physique will improve naturally as you continue training. I knew someone who was so overweight it wasn't even funny. I got him to try to start MA and I made sure he stuck to it even though sometimes he just gave up. I'm not trying to be like an infomercial with this, but about 3 months later, he was literally a different person. As for the part about age, I started when I was 4 years old. I'm 22 now and I have a 2nd degree black belt. And one of my instructors started when he was 55 and he's now 76, has a 7th degree black belt, and he is amazing when fighting! I was amazed when I saw someone that old move like that. So, as long you keep at it and dont give up, its never too late to start or too hard to start.
cathal Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Here, here. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
Shui Tora Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Yep; that is true...Karate is for everyone, no matter the age, height etc... I started at the age of 10 (in a class of 5 yr olds for the junior syllabus... ) and now I am 16, grading for 3rd Kyu in the adult syllabus of Shotokan! (As well as competiting for the county regionals and National regionals for both Kumite and Kata...)It literally doesn't matter who or what you are, as long as you enjoy yourself and learn on the way! To know the road ahead; ask those coming back... ~ Chinese Proverb" The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants.
