Stick and knife

Recommended Posts

Anyone around here ever done a stick and knife fighting combination? It sounds like it would be very cool. Knife fighters are so fast, I would love to learn some.

For the most part, my medieval combat consists of sword and shield. I am hoping to add quarterstaff to the mix. The only people I have to work with are some SCA affiliates, so there are some limitations. I have some friends who are willing to experiment, however, and I think we will start experimenting shortly with other weapons, and adding grips and such.

I know this isn't the proper way to learn, but I have been reading my eyes out on Medieval combat books, to try to learn new things. No instructors in my area, and the nearest seminars are always in Texas or something like that. So, I am doing what I can with what I got.

I'm planning on doing some. The person who's teaching me Kali mentioned it, but I haven't trained in it yet.

I've done a little bit of Kali, but not much. Kali is by far the best at this method of fighting, although they refer to it as Stick and Dagger.

If you can, get hold of one of Dan Inosanto's videos, he does a lot on stick and Dagger.

Remi Prissas and Cacoy Connete (sp?) are both great instructors with good videos to watch.

Great, thanks. :)

I train with the stick and knife with my JKD instructor. I think it definately helps you with body mechanics as well.

Yeah, and reaction time

i'd love to learn some knife fighting, it looks absolutely awesome. finding someone who teaches it is a mission though. i was at this kendo/kenjutsu/iaijutsu seminar thing once, and there were these japanese guys doing some tanto (samurai knife) stuff, it was SO FAST. seriously i've never seen anything like it.

there's also that scene in under seige where seagal has a knife fight with someone. again, rediculously fast.
