Samuel
Ive had a punchbag for a while, Its ~5foot and 40kg.Ive just finished training on it for the night and it doesnt half make me break a sweat and its helped by me rapping some eletrical type at face hight, Solar plexus height and belt high so I know where im hitting and can learn to focus my strikes (my friend, a ex-Muay Thai student said my punches where all over the shop and too high)So heres my question, What should I be looking at for a good routine on it. I usually go in and do ~30min just getting some punches in and a few front and roundhouse kicks. More of a free for all with the bag rather than a technique improvement. So anyone who does karate, can you inform me of some good Combonations . and technique building exercises. Also, Im trying to work power into my kicks i can make the bag swing and bend to high heavens when im punching it, but kicking it doesnt even leave a dent so I want to work alot on kicking too.Im not really up for the whole, 3min on 1min skipping lark, I'd rather go in for 4min and give myself a good 1min rest. Ive found ive been able to last a 5min round with a min or so rest. So im obviously not working hard enough.
bushido_man96
I have the problems with side kicks on the bag. It is hard to notice if I am getting any power on them. Try swinging the bag away, and then stop it with a front leg side kick, or a spin side kick. See if you can get it to fold over your foot a little bit. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Samuel
Well, Where I generally kick on the back it tends to be harder since its more packed down at the bottom, yet really unpacked at the top, so I know when my punches are getting power, just not the kicksI need some combonations too work on too which are more Karate orientated with kicks in, unlike the boxing style combonations I do now.(Thanks for that little combonation there Bushido, Ill go try it soon)
bushido_man96
By "karate" techniques, do you mean just kicking, or also some of the more exotic hand techniques, ie. knifehands, hammerfists, etc? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
Samuel
Thats exactly what I mean, And combonations of them so I can have a good mixed up Sparring session on the bag.And improve my technique.
bushido_man96
Ok, how about this: side step out with your back leg, and do a lead knifehand strike to neck level, followed by hook punch to body/ribs, followed by a back leg round kick to body or head (preferably head ).Lead backfist to the head (in reality, to the side of the face), then turn fast into a spin side kick to the body. Here's a kicker: Start about two stance lengths away from the bag, and do a Thai style push kick to body level with the back leg, and push the bag away hard....follow with a spin side kick with the other leg into the body, or if you can pull it off, do the spin side kick like you are switching your feet really fast, almost like a little jump. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
