Smitty Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 You mean Tai Chi? Yes, it's an internal art practiced for health and so on.
Shotokan-kez Posted May 28, 2006 Author Posted May 28, 2006 Yeah soz i spelt it wrong. I know there is a lot of breathing and relaxation in it. Walk away and your always a winner. https://www.shikata-shotokan.co.uk
tkdan Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I'm curious also but more as a different way to meditate. Relaxation and self control are things I feel I need more of as I go through life. As far as how much Tai Chi has to do with fighting I'm not sure. It seems like in the beginning of Tai Chi is geared more towards understanding Tai Chi. I don't know about the more advanced applications. Of coarse I have only began to look into it I'm sure there are others here better qualified to to answer your questions.

I know nothing about it but i am very curious.Kez Tai chi - "Supreme Ultimate Fist" Trained in forms that move really slowly, emphazising on deep breathing, concentration and natural movement.Their slow forms make it look like it doesnt work for fighting, but it is a pretty effective chinese style.for more information:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tai_chi#Training_and_techniques <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
lordtariel Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Tai chi is a very effective martial art...IF you can find someone who knows the martial applications and you practice it as such. Look into push hands and silk reeling for more of that. It is also good for internal concentration and meditation. Like all things though, it all depends on finding a good instructor. Check out these videos.http://taiji.de/taiji/head5e/index.htm They have all of the big 4 styles(chen, yang, sun, and wu), some weapons forms and some self defense demonstrations. Kajukenbopr Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 how does this help your health?Tai chi has a different kind of breathing(Slow deep breaths) that massage your internal organs making them work as they should. And makes emphasis on relaxation- you train without putting too much stress on your body, so ur strength lasts longer. The movements are natural and work to strengthen the whole body instead of just some parts( ex. biceps,etc..)Tai Chi and Chi Kung (Qi Qong) have been known for treatment of ailments without cure. <> Be humble, train hard, fight dirty
