i have 16% and i can't see my abs.

How can i avoid during the cardio burn sugar? i want to burn fat.

Not sure I understand your question. Are you looking for ways to lose bodyfat?

OK, here are some bare essentials:

*Exercise aerobically 5x week, 30-60 minutes per session.

*Lift weights 3x per week. 8-10 reps for 3 sets per exercise with 1 minute rest between sets.

*Eat moderate fat, protein and carbohydrates in a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables. Consume 11x your bodyweight in lbs for daily calories for fat loss. (ie 170 lbs = 1870 calories/day)

*Drink 6-8 glasses of water per day.

*Sleep 8 hours per night at least.

*Always eat breakfast, then eat every 3-4 hours throughout the day in small meals.

*Manage your stress levels. Stress raises levels of cortisol, which causes you to gain bodyfat.

Start with that--those are the basics. A good trainer and nutritionist can help you with specifics for your individual needs.

I have about 15%, and can see the general shape/six pack, although it is not very defined at the moment.

Your body will burn freely available glucose first, then as it goes through the readily available energy it will turn to converting and using stored energy. For most people, it takes about 10-15 minutes to go through free circulating glucose and start turning to storage, although this may vary depending on your fitness level and other genetic factors.

How are you measuring the body fat: calipers, electrical resistance, total body immersion?

I've measured my self with calipers and by stepping on a scale that passes a small electrical current through you. The caliper method showed 8 % (20 years ago), while the electronic scales show 11-14% depending on the scale.

In 20 years, I don't think my physique has changed as much as the difference in body fat percentages indicate. Still cut. Still got the six-pack. I can't explain it by some super work-out routine. Probably a combination of diet, exercise and genetics.

The guys I know with really defined abs are around 8%, depending on how much muscle is under there.

For just definition- you should be close (again depending on amount of muscle)

Just like to add that electrical body fat analyzers are USELESS. I have a swimmer friend, ripped and lean as can be. Told him he had over 20% body fat.

If it works, use it!

If not, throw it out!

I have mine checked with both the callipers and the electrical scales once a month, the last average being 21.5% (this was after a break from MA while recovering from surgery), and the lowest I have seen myself at was 19%. 5 or 6 years ago when I started MA I was a big boy, I've shed most of it but it's hard to tell with the excess skin now.

Best bodyfat measurement available - Underwater weighing. Bar none.

Calipers done by a trained technician utilizing at least seven sites on the body run second.

Anything else figure a +/- ratio of 5-10% depending on the method. Electrical impedence (IMHO) is useless. We have one at our dojangh. I weighed myself before a sparring class, and a little while after. Lost 6 pounds, gained 4% bodyfat.
