I began learning the Hangetsu kata this week. My first impressions are that this is a power kata full of a lot of subtleties. I find that a few others rush through the kata though, not taking the time. If you practice this kata, do you feel similarly?

If you aren't familiar with this kata, here are some links below.

If it's anything similar to Sanchin or Tensho Kata then it's a very useful kata with many lessons to learn.

Those are great morning workout katas to do right when you wake up before breakfast. AND they are my favorite kata next to taikyoku ichi

Ichi Geki, Hissatsu

one strike, certain death

In fact it is. :) I agree wholeheartedly.

well, Hangetsu is not like Sanchin and Tensho, for sure not a before breakfast kata. but it's a solid kata, may be one of the oldest katas out there ( of course not Hangetsu itself but the original version Seasan), Hangetu stance is a deep stance but if it becomes a little bit higher then we have a fighting Naihanchi stance in 45 degree.

Hangetsu is a great powerful kata the slow moves moving into fast ones make it feel and look strong. also Kez Jitte is my fav kata i love it

"When I punch, I do not hit, it hits all by itself."

I haven't learned Jitte yet but I do like watching it performed, especially by someone who's been doing it for a while.

Yeah good one karate kid, isn't it a 2nd or 3rd dan kata? Kata is my favourite thing about Karate. I also like Heian Yondan, but dislike Tekki Shodan. Is Hangetsu the one where you have to jump and do a full turn in the air and land in shuto-uki?

After Eugue Ryu I may have to take up Shotokan again. By the way, is Nahainchi Shodan done the same in Shotokan as it is in most styles?
