Shikata Shotokan Karate

Shotokan-kez

Recommended Posts

Hi all has anyone ever trained or heard of Shikata Shotokan? This is the style i train in. Our grading system has stripes on the belts. Purple and white stripe, brown one white stripe and brown two white stripes. Does anyone else do a style that has these? We don't have a blue belt either. I did train in Shukokai for a short while but they had white tabs on the ends of the brown belt.

It'll be interesting to hear how drifferent styles have different belt systems. :karate:

I know little, but have heard of it in passing, however our belt system is different. No stripes white, yellow, orange, green, purple x2, brown x3, then black.

It is likely our dojos are affiliated with different organizations. Mine is affiliated with the JKA/ISKF.

I am currently 3rd kyu. In our system it is Brown.

yeah i'm 3rd kyu, i'm going for 2nd kyu which is a white stripe on the brown belt. My association is ssk shikata shotokan. How did you find bassai dai? I love that kata, but sometimes i get it confused with the moves in heian godan. I have just learnt Jitte but don't know any others yet, do you?

In the beginning a I got stuck with a few of the techniques, as I kept going into the Heian Godan, but not so much now. It just took a little practice.

If you think only of hitting, springing, striking or touching the enemy, you will not be able actually to cut him. You must thoroughly research this. - Musashi
